I'd rather lose without Meyer than win with him. He's not only radioactive, I don't think he'd be all that good with them. Not just because of the jacked up recruiting situation like you described, but I don't think he's that good of a coach. He did good at OSU, but that school has an iron grip on recruiting up there and their talent was far superior to opponents other than the Alabamas of CFB.Desperate.
They were a big red machine, a perennial contender.
They have tried everything to recapture that and just managed to slide further back into football oblivion.
The truth is they lack the recruiting base. Back in the days of the Big 8 and early big 12 that whole area and most notably Texas were their recruiting grounds. No longer.
They have not really made inroads recruiting Big 10 territory either.
Grabbing players from their immediate geographic footprint will not grant them consistant success... particularly when contending programs can come in and snatch the best from their backyard.
I think Frost is a good coach and a good person, but he was not going to ressurect the Red Machine.
Their ONLY hope, and a slim one, is to pull a name that immedieatly gets them national recruiting ties... and gets them press and national airtime (good or bad).
Of course, with a faded "brand" and their location, that slim chance is likely near none in the world of NIL.
Though maybe Meyer has some connections he could leverage if he is not too radioactive for them at this point.
All I know is that Notre Lame fell completely out of the Top 25.....from #8! lolSunbelt had an impressive weekend:
Marshall over Notre Dame
App St over Texas A&M
GA Southern over Nebraska
Sounds like the current staff was already operating under the assumption they would be reduced to 55 official visits this year, too.LSU placed on probation for recruiting violations
The NCAA has placed the LSU football program on one year of probation and accepted several self-imposed penalties over violations that occurred during the COVID-19 recruiting dead period.www.espn.com
That was all self imposed, wasnt it? So probation is pretty much the only new bit.Sounds like the current staff was already operating under the assumption they would be reduced to 55 official visits this year, too.
I saw that during the game and was wondering how they pulled that off. I assume white and orange tshirts were hung over the seats in the sections to create the checkerboard. No way fans can pull that off by themselves. Or did they?
