WASHINGTON – Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-New Orleans, is the most centrist member of
the U.S. Senate based on her 2007 voting record, according to an annual analysis of
votes by National Journal magazine.

The magazine, which calls itself nonpartisan, called Landrieu the Senate's “ideological
center,” noting that there is just as many senators with a more conservative voting
record than Landrieu's as there are those with a more liberal record.

“Louisianians, like most Americans, do not want leadership that moves us right or left.
They seek solutions that move us forward,” Landrieu said. “Like other reform-minded
Senate moderates, I will continue voting with an independent mind, looking to smart
solutions that reflect the political center. This means voting against counterproductive
taxes that would primarily target Louisiana jobs and businesses. It also means
supporting the administration when its position benefits our state and country. But I will
continue to fight polices that are bad for Louisiana, such as when our delegation worked
together to successfully override the president’s veto of the $7-billion water projects bill.”

Last week, Congress.org’s 2008 Congressional Power Rankings named Landrieu the
10th most effective legislator in the Senate and cited her moderate position’s “influence
(on) the legislative process” as a key factor to her ranking.

Quote-worthy.

If we don't send her back to the Senate we might as well give up. While I'm sure John Kennedy is capable, you just don't trash the kind of seniority that Landrieu has built up. Period.

The fact that the all of the senior members of our Congressional delegation are retiring (or facing indictment) makes it all the more imperative that we keep Mary around.

i'm an independent who generally votes republican

but i will vote for mary without flinching. she has earned it.

Mary is our ambassador. I will be supporting her with an enthusiastic heart in November. Hers is the only vote that I know I'm casting at this time. We haven't had Top 10 Senate power since Long and Johnston were up there. Mary is so much more than what her detractors go after her for. Even if I'm not the model centrist, I so appreciate centrism in Washington and especially in the United States Senate where balance is the key to everything. She deserves another 6 years easily.
