tax cuts didn't work so well when Dubya was in office, so you are right that it'll be interesting to see if it'll work in Sweden.

As I recall unemployment figures were mostly low through most of Bush's term, I don't know if tax cuts had anything to do with that or not. Interesting to see if it helps those figures in Sweden.

Interesting. So the fed dropping rates, 9/11, corruption and trying to fight two wars had nothing to do with it?

There is nothing to be learned from comparing tax cuts in Sweden, to tax cuts in the United States. Taxes in Sweden are insane, and clearly discourage business there. I think there is an 80% tax bracket there, on top of other taxes.

Bush inherited a recession from Clinton in 2000 and the country was at full employment just 18 months ago. I would like to know your definition of "not working so well".

Edit this is better:

Even during the good years, job growth under Bush was slower than the average under Clinton.

The Clinton years ended with a net gain of 23 million jobs, whereas the Bush years saw a net gain of about 5 million from 01 to 2008. That’s not to say that either president deserves full credit or full blame for everything that happened on their watch as president but these are the real facts of the job numbers.

thx for saving me the trouble.

good points all; like you, i don't give any POTUS all of the credit or all of the blame for anything... but i am a big picture guy, a results guy-- and end of the day, all we really have to go by is results.

I think there has to be an equilibrium when it comes to taxation. Sweden may indeed spur employment through cutting taxes, but let's remember that Sweden is far more socialist than the US will ever be and they have very high taxes. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

I feel that the net result of the W Bush tax cuts for the wealthy was that the wealthy took their money overseas, resulting in economic stagnation and eventually recession.

Sweden's centre-right government on Saturday announced income tax cuts of 10 billion kronor to stimulate the job market, its primary objective.

It will be interesting to see if this will work.

i gave you a thumbs-up (helpful) for this thread KingBarkus, because i think threads like these are a perfect example of how we all kinda want the same thing-- economic prosperity, financial security, etc... the only difference is that we disagree on the methodology of how to go about it.. of course, as with all things-- the devil is in the details.

And I will rep you for repping him because I feel like repping people today. I will probably also rep Barkus because I dont follow much about Sweden's politics and its an interesting story.

A tax cut is not just a tax cut. There are different types.
For example - Clinton raised marginal rates on higher income, and effectively lowered it on most middle class and poor people - a demand side cut.
Bush's tax cut was geared heavily on top income , a supply-side cut.
I don't know, but I doubt Sweden is going the supply-side way.

Then I'll rep because I approve of hot chicks. But I will not be able to use the box rep and give you my full rep power because you did not provide pictures of said hot chicks.
