Pelicans fill role of vice president of basketball operations and team development with impressive candidate.

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the New Orleans Pelicans are hiring Swin Cash for a senior position within the front office.

The team will name Cash vice president of basketball operations and team development, sources say. She will scout, help guide player development on and off the floor, and assume other roles within the organization.
Cash’s resume is as long as it is impressive. After winning three titles in an illustrious 15-year career, she was named one of the twenty greatest and most influential players in WNBA history. Previously, she helped lead the University of Connecticut to two national championships (2000, 2002) and won two Olympic gold medals.

Since her playing days, Cash has functioned as the Director of Franchise Development, a first-of-its-kind WNBA front office position. She was just the second former WNBA player to jump right into a front office position immediately after her playing retirement.

In addition, Cash has broken barriers in broadcasting. She was the first woman to serve as a studio television analyst for an NBA club when she took a job with MSG Networks.

“I think it’s great,” Knicks coach Derek Fisher says. “It’s probably long overdue because analyzing a game is not based in gender.”

Cash has also made appearances on NBA TV alongside Griffin.

It is important to note that Cash has had a substantial impact outside of the basketball world as well.

She is the Founder of Swin Cash Enterprises, LLC and the Founder of Cash Building Blocks, LP, an urban development company that renovates and offers affordable homes for low income families. As if that weren’t enough, the McKeesport, Pennsylvania native, is the founder of Cash for Kids, a 501 (c)(3) charity with the mission to “motivate, educate, & elevate” kids. Through Cash for Kids she has helped over a thousand children across the nation with a particular focus on fitness.
It’s not difficult to surmise that the string of impressive hires continues for David Griffin: Aaron Nelson, Trajan Langdon and now Swin Cash.
