I don't get why head coaches don't ever take advantage of this.

Worst case the opposing team has it between the 35-40 yard line. It's worth the risk in exchange for 10-15 yards of field position.

I thought that was what he was gonna do. I don't like going for 2 early in games. If you don't get it, you're chasing points all game. Take the gimme point. This is the second time I can recall Payton doing this and he's 0-2. But at least on this one, he got to re-kick due to the offensive penalty.

Agreed about going for 2 early in games is rather foolish, but my greater point is you're being given the extra advantage of kicking from midfield.

And I totally agree. Take the points, then the yardage, and onside kick it.
