With the untimely and very sad OUT FOR THE SEASON Victor Butler, what do any of think about Takeo Spikes being a FA and how would he "fit" with Our SAINTS ,Coach Ryan and the 3-4 requiring some respect and being on the "dangerous" side ( all due respect to commish goddell and all)?

Takeo is seriously "football smart" is a known commodity and one heck of an athelete who brings an intimidation factor along with him wherever he goes.

I really don't know how much football he has left, how conditioned he is or how he'd fit with the rest of Our guys but he just seems to bring an intimidation factor with him which this Defense needs!

Just throwing it out realizing he's available and could be the Darren Sharper of the LB'ers this season.

Any thoughts other than I may be insane?

He's an inside linebacker, not an outside guy. If we sign him, it'll probably have nothing to do with losing Butler.

Short answer, no.

Amazing. Spikes is 6'2 238 lbs, Harper is 6'0 200 lbs. Spikes weighs 38 pounds more, but Harper's neck is still bigger. How is that even possible?

OK, aside from all of the "NECK" comments, and just because he's played "inside" is no RULE saying he couldn't play "outside LB'er" and not just saying he would plug-in where Butler has now left a huge hole, the point is, Takeo Spike still is in great shape, young enough to play and veteren enough to yearn and do whatever it takes to gain a Championship Ring. He'd bring a strong presence to whatever Defense he joins up with and Coach Ryan may have a plan for him should he become a SAINT. So, with all of that said, I'd really like to know what the Board thinks about this being an option. Then, is there some other OLB'er who would bring a better "fit" to this new Defense, along with prestige of being a powerful run stopper yet smart enough to read the Offenses within a Coach Ryan scheme? I'm being serious about it and admitting I don't know enough about Spikes and what Coach Ryan is planning to do and THEN, we've lost Butler for the season already and we could always use a positive at the LB'er position, inside, outside, what does it matter anymore? We NEED staught MEN at that position who are smart enough and agile enough to make plays all over the field, no matter where or how!

The Saints probably won't make anymore signings until maybe 2 weeks into training camp. They'll see what the guys on the roster can/can't do before bringing somebody else in.

Doesn't Spikes have some kind of anti-playoff gris-gris?

The Saints had one of those too... until we didn't. Just bc he's never played in a playoff game on any other team doesn't mean that lack of success would follow him here.

Only took one post, guess I shoulda bet the under :hihi:

I don't see him as an option he is a 36 year old turning 37 during the season. He is a career ILB and while there is no rule saying he can't play OLB there is no rule saying he can either.

Plus next year we will need a lot of cap space to sign our own free agents next year.
