what is your stand on the matter?
i'd be ecstatic with either, reach or not, but it's hard to decide which.

NO TO LOFTON @ 10.... he's a 25-35 pick...... NO SOONER.....

DRC with 10....

If I could plan the draft out for maximum value, I think DRC and Mayo provide the best 1-2 punch of total talent as far as realistic picks go. Lofton is not a top 10 pick. He'll go late in the 1st most likely.

Although I still think Cromartie is raw if you will, I can now see him going at #10 or even higher. He has all of the tools. To be honest, I wouldn't be upset with that.

Lofton, although I think he will be a solid player, will NEVER go at #10.

My thoughts on this are simple, if you continually draft for need which means you will always REACH on players, then you will end up with a bunch of average to solid players and ultimately this just will not do.

End of 1st to solid early 2nd I would say on Lofton.

True, but I've been speculating that Lofton will rise to a top 20 pick. JMO.
but as for Mayo, I think with his 40 time he shot himself to a late first rounder, though just imagine getting Cromartie AND Mayo...wow

If we can get Mayo / Lofton in the 2nd, I would be quite happy with DRC in the first.

Ok here is my 2 cents.

Lofton will be a great pro and will likely hit some Pro Bowls in his career but he does not strike me as Ray Lewis or even a Patrick Willis. He is more of a guy that is going to put in the work and make 80 to 110 tackles a season for at least 6 years. More like Vilma who we can trade for at this time.

DRC has more risk involved but look at it like this we have done well in evaluating these small school guys and he has huge upside for the future. Even if he does not start next season he can still be a beast in the punt return game and as a gunner with his speed. Although I think he would start over all our CB's today just on raw talent. Also has a rpoven good blood line.

I Take DRC

I'd spend ALOT of timing figuring out a way to get Cromartie/Lofton in rounds 1 and 2 (trade up for Lofton 25-30 slots) Still land a big name FA or trade like Vilma, Briggs, Samuel. I'm a firm believer in giving away future picks if it what you need is on the market now. Right now the market is ripe with players that can help us. The draft is offering some nice top talent at CB and MLB. Free Agency has a top corner (be it cover 2) a top linebacker UFA and a top trade talent.

Not a bad thought take Cromatrie at # 10 trade our 2nd this year and 3rd next season to get back in round 1 and take Lofton. Trade a 4th for Vilma and take Laws or someone like that in the third!!!!!!!!!

Ok maybe I am going a little to far but God that would be awesome.

BEWARE OF WORKOUT WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the downside of the combine... people become enthralled with 40 times, vertical jumps, etc. and forget if the guy can play football at a high level. DRC played Division II football, and while he had a very solid Senior Bowl, several other players bumped up their stock in a similar fashion -including Devery Henderson.

Mike Mamula is perhaps the most cited player for being THE combine "freak", but there are others... and that helps explain why some guys get taken so high and end up being busts, and others end up being 6th or 7th round picks and being either MVP's or runner-up rookie of the years.

DRC already has an edge because of his last name -at least from the recognition standpoint, but before I'd spend my #10 pick on either of these guys, I'd make damn sure they were the 10th best player in the draft.

I think we can get a similar talent at lb in the 2nd or possibly 3rd. I'm hedging on taking Laws at 41. It's possible Wheeler or even Goff could still be there for us in the 3rd.
