You never know what you’re going to get with the first preseason game, but Friday night had a little bit of everything.
The New Orleans Saints kicked off their 2019 preseason campaign at home on Friday night against the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, it didn’t result in a victory, as the team lost 35-24 despite coming back.
For the Saints defense, all regular starters took the first snap minus Cameron Jordan. It didn’t really matter, as the Vikings were able to walk the distance of the field thanks to some excellent plays from Kirk Cousins. Minnesota looked to have a touchdown after Cousins found Adam Thielen on a go route with Eli Apple in coverage, but further review indicated he was down at the 1-yard line. The very next play saw the Vikings take it in to take a 7-0 lead.
New Orleans piloted a nice drive courtesy of Teddy Bridgewater, who got the start in place of Drew Brees, as he was nearly perfect. He was 6-of-6 for 43 yards prior to an end zone incompletion to Michael Thomas, and both Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray were featured heavily on the opening drive. Wil Lutz came in to put the first points of the 2019 preseason on the board to cut the Vikings lead to 7-3. ...
