Been fishing locally in MS at Calling Panther, its been super slow so far and looking to go on a trip. Fishing for largemouths, I've researched Lake Ohkissa and Percy Quin in MS but I've heard good things about Toledo Bend. Any locals have any input?

Toledo Bend is amazing fishing. I've spent a lot of time fishing there, in camps near Zwolle and Many. Bass, brim, and perch - excellent fishing for them. Loved it. Most of the time was spent near Zwolle and over to Pendleton Bridge. Not sure what you are looking for, specifically, but happy to share my experiences fishing in the area.

Wow........I used to think it was a big deal when some would mention Natchitoches on this forum......and here you go talking about Sabine Parish with all that familiarity. Some interesting folks down around those parts, as I'm sure you remember....

I spent a *lot* of time outside of Zwolle at the camp. I loved it. It was a three hour drive that I looked forward to as many weekends as I could. Toledo Tackle was one of my favorite places in the world and shopping for new bait and tackle was like mini-Christmas.

My uncle put his place up for sale and I'd buy it if I was still local - it's in a great spot, but its location means it can get really shallow when they let the dam out. That's the only drawback. But yea, Zwolle was like a home away from home from the time I was probably 7 until I graduated high school. The camps at Big Lake, in SWLA were a lot of fun, and close by. But going to Toledo Bend to fish for an entire weekend was a real destination for me.

You probably also remember that seafood restaurant "Bryce's" on the Texas side of Toledo Bend.........a quick Google search shows me that it is now closed. Did you ever make your way to the "Tamale Fiesta" in Zwolle ?

never made it to the Tamale Fiesta, but based on name alone - I'm sorry I missed it. But we used to get tamales from places around there, I know that.

And yea, we went to that place - I think that was it, anyway. Other side of Pendleton Bridge. But only a couple of times. There was a place - and another name I don't quite remember - on the way there - that had a killer Friday night seafood all you can eat, with a frog's legs special (the guy that ran it was called "Chief" and I think it was maybe Lighthouse or something). I remember going there a couple of times, too - and putting a hurting on their all you can eat with my dad and uncles and their friends. We were up the road from Ethel's Driftwood Lounge.

I don't remember any restaurant called Lighthouse (or anything all-you-can-eat, in general)............but they've had multiple restaurants out that direction come and go, so it's not surprising. Sounds like you mostly experienced the positive aspects of that area (the lake and the tamales), which is a good thing.
