I searched for a similar thread. I found a lot of crazy Texas stuff but no dedicated threads. Maybe we should just put the Texas stuff in one place?

I offer this.

Kid decides to "coal roll, some cyclists and runs over six people.

Not arrested.

I'm going to speculate why.

A sixteen year old with what is probably an $80,000 truck. Rich?

Arresting him might jeopardize his high school football team's chances?

Not familiar with Texas law regarding parental liability, but I would imagine that will be tested here.

but you mentioned "the state." If we want to say that is not political, I have some gloves to take off, but no way the mods would agree

Ive always thought TX is worse than FL.. both are too hot and humid for human habitation, but as CCS mentioned, the beaches in FL are an enormous bonus .. but also, there seems to me to be a lot more sanity in FL overall (no link to support that, but ive lived in both places).. just a lot more cool people, open minded, forward thinking people.. of course, there are plenty of lunatics as well.. But FL is almost like three distinct states- the panhandle, which is basically Lower Alabama.. South Florida which is extremely divers and almost like a sweltering New York City.. and the rest of FL, which is a mix…. Most Texans to me seem to think monolithically (not all), which leads to a kind of groupthink mentality and , as many have noted , TX does seem like it‘s own country, and not in a good way.

Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are all distinct. Even Ft. Worth vs Dallas is different. All of these are very different than the country. My wife works with county officials and she says its bananas how different the cities are from the rest of the state. Way too big and diverse to say Texas is _____

May be waiting for determination of injuries and just how bad they are before determining what to arrest and charge him with.

Edit: Whether they can charge him as a adult rather than a juvenile may also come into play.

As a native Texan who has lived in Houston, Dallas & Austin, I can confirm this. Geographically and culturally, each city and region is very different.

Also, it's silly to me to see people from Louisiana talk about how hot and humid it is in Texas. Louisiana is also hot and even more humid which makes it worse.

Ive lived in Houston and Austin , and spent significant time over the years in SA and Dallas.. there is a certain ‘Texas’ mentality .. again, not with ALL people .. but it is pervasive.

I would personally never claim that La isnt hot and humid, unbearably so.. ive had debates with people about which is hotter and more humid, Houston or NOLA.. my theory has always been that they have identical crappy weather.. but in NOLA, you are usually walking around more, strolling through the Quarter, walking to the Dome for Saints games, etc, so you NOTICE the heat more.. in Houston i feel like people spend the majority of their time in air conditioning, in homes and vehicles.. but both are brutal, which is why i dont live in either place anymore.
