I made this argument last year, but understandably, it didn’t resonate. Carr ended up playing right around the worth of his contract in 2023 when you consider all the numbers and our win total. He’s clearly over performing it now.

Loomis looks like a genius locking him down at $37m a year and only $60m guaranteed when guys like Prescott are now getting $60m a year and $231m guaranteed.

Having a QB on that manageable of a contract is going to make 2025/26 more competitive as well for the Saints.

He is the 16/17th paid QB. Baker and Geno are the only non-rookie or bridge QBs making less. He has a 51M and 61M cap hit in '25 and '26. I was hoping we would sign him to a Mayfield type contract but the value is still there when you see some terrible Jones/Watson/Murray/Lawrence contracts.

I said BEFORE we even signed Carr that we should sign him and it would be a great fit and lots of fans think he is some shouldn't be starting bum.

Lots of fans owe Derek Carr an apology.
Especially the boo birds. It was his first season in an offensive system that goes back to the biblical times.

How stupid do the Raiders look now? They benched this dude for a nobody

The Raiders are in such constant turmoil and transition that it’s a daunting impediment to ever laying the foundation for success. Davis doesn’t know what he wants and how to put it together. Coaching turnover means never-ending changes to the overall vision for the team. That was the first twenty years of the Saints existence.

Best thing to happen for both Allen and Carr was moving on from there.

I posted in another thread that one of the reasons that overall QB play is down this year is due to a lot of younger QB's starting each week. Most of the top QB's from the previous era (Brees/Brady/Manning/Rodgers/etc) put up their best numbers in their 30's.

When I posted that, I never considered that maybe Carr is entering the prime of his own career in his age 33 season. It certainly looks like it these past few weeks.

This is a point I’ll continue to make so long as Carr’s contract is a point of discussion, but

A large chunk of this fanbase got hung up on the fact that the contract is bigger than the blockbuster deal Drew Brees signed back in 2012. Their thought was “that number is bigger than the one Brees got, so he better play better than Brees” when one quarterback in NFL history plays at/above Brees’ level, and he was selected one slot before the Saints drafted Marshon Lattimore.

I don’t know if they thought the front office would be able to nickel-and-dime Jameis Winston with 2 year, $8 million contracts forever or something, but if so that was never gonna happen. Somebody was going to get that money. It’s fine that Carr did. That contract was a bargain when it was signed, is a bargain today, and it’ll be a bargain the day it concludes.

If you exclude his time at the dysfunctional raiders organization Dennis Allen is a .500 Coach, trending to be significantly higher by the end of this season.

Good points. I truly don't think that most people here thought DC sucked. Most viewed him as possessing arm talent and pretty good. The albatross that hung from his neck (And AK, MT) has finally been vanquished.

It always takes time for logic to navigate emotion. Good call

I thought is was a bargain when we signed him. But the Jaboo faithful hated it.
