This show is my guilty pleasure. It isn't perfect by any stretch, especially in the first season, but it is without a doubt my favorite sci-fi show, possibly ever. I was afraid that this would just be a lame CW teeny-bopper show when I was first told about it years ago, but it has been outstanding.
This show is like Lost, Altered Carbon, Westworld, and Game of Thrones all combined but on a low budget. It explores space, time travel, immortality, virtual reality, post-apocalyptic themes, social issues (love, being an outcast, elitism, etc.), nuclear war fallout and ramifications, wormholes, alien species, monarchy, human behavior when trapped together for a long time, etc. It just checks so many boxes for me. Plus it is cool to see all of the kids grow up over the course of the seasons, and also grow as actors overall.
Again though, there will be some eye-roll moments due to the somewhat low acting budget, especially in the early seasons, and you REALLY have to power through the first 3 or 4 episodes because they're pretty brutal due to said acting issues, but once you get past that, it is great.
