Lots of new faces/preseason filler.

That Backstrom goal with 6 seconds left ... good thing for that goalie its only preseason. :D

In his defense, bouncing pucks are already hard for the goalies, and that puck took a really weird bounce. Must've hit right on a groove in the ice.

System, hate to thread Jack what is obviously a NHL/Das Kapitals hockey thread, but considering that the MLB regular season is now less than a week from ending, and the Nationals are currently the #2 NL WC seed, with Milwaukee barely in control of the NL's #1 seed and certainly a very reasonable chance at regaining the 1st wild card seed, if the Nats or Brewers face each other in a one-game WC tie-breaker, would you consider attending the game if it were played in Nationals Park or would you watch it closely with family or friends in your living room if the game was played in Milwaukee? Nationals have had a very good, surprising season considering many experts, panelists predicted before the season they'd struggle without a major, consistent power hitter in Bryce Harper.

If the Nationals were indeed victorious in the NL WC tie-breaker, do you think they'd stand a reasonable chance vs. LA Dodgers? Or would they have overachieved?

Since Washington DC regained a MLB team in 2005, gradually The Nationals have become a consistently successful playoff contender, they've won 4 NL East titles since 2012, will more then likely make another run this season, and they've helped add a new sports dimension to DC sports, who for so long had fading memories of the old Washington Senators or were Orioles fans since 1971 when old Senators left for Texas to become Rangers. For over 3 decades, Redskins or the old Bullets/Wizards were the kings of DC sports talk radio shows or discussions. Capitals had some hit or miss success but in some respects, they didn't become this NHL powerhouse contender until Ovie arrived and the team's FO began building a solid, supporting cast around him. When the Nationals have a good solid roster with excellent pitching staff, I have noticed they can really create a noticeable buzz during the summer.

FWIW, Ryan Zimmerman is the quintessential Nationals player, his first season, 2005, was the first year the old Expos played in a new city, and while countless infielders, outfielders, closers, All-star power hitters, All-Star relievers, All-Star pitchers, managers, GM's have all come and gone, Zimmerman has remained as the one constant, hustling player who's given it his all, for nearly 15 years. DC sports fan or not, regardless of whether one lives in Beltway or northern Maryland region or not, you have to respect that man's deep, sincere conviction and dedicaion to Washington Nationals for all these years.
