The defending NFC Champion Carolina Panthers (3-6) host the New Orleans (4-5) in an NFC South Division matchup tonight. The outcome could determine the chances of a postseason run for the Panthers if they come up short. Cam Newton, the reigning NFL MVP, has struggled to be consistent this season, a theme that has been a lingering issue for the Panthers 2016 season.
Newton is currently under a five-year contract, worth $103 million with $60 million guaranteed, but the current NFL MVP has work to do to get his team back in the postseason to defend their NFC Championship. The Panthers defense hasn’t helped Newton either and certainly shares the blame, ranking 15th in total defense, but 23rd against the pass and 23rd in points given up per game. On the opposing sideline, the Saints, who began the season 0-3, have surged back into contention before losing a heart-breaker to the defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos last weekend. They will most certainly be prepared to bounce back with a win when they come into Bank of America Stadium.
Tonight’s game will feature yet another installment of the Nike Color Rush series. As the home team, the Panthers will wear the all-blue uniforms which was debuted during last year’s Thanksgiving Day game versus the Dallas Cowboys. The Saints will be wearing an all-white uniform similar to the look most visiting teams have displayed this season. One hundred percent of the NFL’s revenue from the sale of Color Rush jerseys goes directly to the NFL Foundation to fund health, safety and wellness programs for youth.
