Point of this thread is to examine some current players on our roster who you believe their contract should be restructured to free up valuable cap space. We have some posters on the site who are really informed and their input is more than welcomed. Again, this isn't a thread to tear down anyone, it is simply one to discuss how Loomis may help the team going forward battling the cap.

I will go first with a contract that I see when examining it will be a huge hit to our salary cap in 2022

Current Contract

Cameron Jordan signed a 3 year, $52,500,000 contract with the New Orleans Saints, including a $15,500,000 signing bonus, $42,035,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $17,500,000. In 2021, Jordan will earn a base salary of $1,075,000, a restructure bonus of $12,725,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000, while carrying a cap hit of $9,356,250 and a dead cap value of $30,700,000.

What jumps out to me is the huge increase in salary and cap hit of $9,356,250 in 2021 to the $22,881,250 in 2022. In a year where we need to sign some much needed talent and depth, this may be a good one to restructure. Cam is and always been one of my favorite Saints players, again this isn't a tear down thread, simply looking at salary versus production. This may be a good place to start to free up money.

What other contracts do some of you guru's see out there that can be restructured and help us going forward?

Taysom Hill - 10 mil fully guaranteed salary in 2022 can be converted to signing bonus and spread out to 2025.
Wasn’t the plan all along to make his deal more team friendly?

A lot of guys are getting restructured this offseason. Nick Underhill took some time (before laying out Jameis 1 of 1) to outline just how easy getting under the cap will be.

It’s Loomis math. Before his new contract, his cap hit was 10 mil if he stays, 9mil if he leaves, and it cannot be converted because 2022 is the last year for his old contract. After the deal, his cap his is 12.3 but 9mil can be converted to bring his cap down to 5.1mil. This contract also guarantees that he will be here in 2023.

Honestly, the simple mindedness of Taysom’s contract is something. When I hear the National Media comment on it I feel annoyed, when I hear posters on this site comment on the contract it’s just embarrassing. Do folks not know who Mickey is? Are they new to this whole “football” thang?

Here is another, Andrus Peat. While many including myself were baffled by the enormity of this contract we really haven't begun to feel the sting from it yet. This year our cap hit from the contract was only $5.6 million, 2022 this just about triples to a whopping $15.4 million

It was one designed to not insult Hill if you will , yet at the same time ensures he will not be playing QB1 in our offense. He will be paid under the joker role for 2022 barring any more crazy injuries to our QB. Get the 95 million out of your mind, that was Loomis Loomising nothing more nothing less. His contract will not be a detriment to us going forward contrary to popular belief. We have way more contracts that are going to hit our cap much worse than Hill

I’d say Malcolm Jenkins needs to take a pay cut or be released. He’s not close to the player he once was, and he’s not worth the cap space he takes up.
Agree, CGJ and PJ are just as good and cheaper.
Plus we need to free up something for a FS (either Williams or some one else).

That's a good one as well, great example. Another backloaded contract that has a salary more than doubling in 2022. His cap hit this year was only $5 million, jumping to $11.7 in 2022

I'm at the Point of don't extend or restructure, take the cap hit, stop kicking the can and rebuild. But, I know that's not how it works. At least don't restructure cam Jordan, no need to push that money further out.

At this point,I think they should just run with book next season with his cheap price tag and rebuild around him.

Hills contract almost forces the saints to draft or sign a top free agent QB.

Hill set the min $ for anyone to come here. If Winston is back, he's wanting more $ than hill. That's the downside.

Hill doing the joker role next year going into preseason would help the offense more.
