I use to look forward to the Draft like a kid looks forward to Christmas morning. I recall my family and I use to have draft parties, crawfish boils, etc just to celebrate and see how the draft will play out.
Even if there wasn't a party going on, I would sit in front the TV (on mute), while listening to Mike Detillier, his draft guide or on NFL.com's draft profile page looking at prospects.
Of course this is before the draft was changed to the format that it is now. The NFL has milked and water down the draft experience for the sake of money, but I am not a fan of the draft being held over 3 days. However I do like the shortened rounds, but I miss the 2-day drafts.

From a Saints fan perspective, these past few drafts have been a little tough to predict. Also the lack of picks can minimize the attention to the draft program itself. I recall after we draft a player, I would watch highlights and imagine that player making the same exact plays with the Saints, etc. However as i've gotten older, it's been tough to view the draft the same.

Is it just me or has others experienced this?

No I don't feel the same as you. I will say it has gotten a little too dramatic but people love a juicy story. You might be a little upset because of how the draft had to be last because of the pandemic. I do wish it was two days instead of three. But I do remember the draft being way too long and no time limit. Gosh that was horrible to watch. I do remember a first round selection would last as much as 30 minutes for each team. I don't want to go through that again.

Two things I've learned that you don't like: the current draft format and the correct use of past tense.

The Thursday night start is a drag IMO, I could see a Friday night start

since I only really care about Saints , need 1 or 2 players now vs 7 players as in yeas past it’s more about quality
The past few drafts have been great to the team. So it's hard to really argue about that, but from a fun perspective, it was fun to walk away with 7 players and trying to imagine where they will fit on the team. But i'd rather be in the current state that we are in now by having a strong roster and not needing every pick.

I really hate the long wait from the start of free agency till the draft. Like a month and half wait. In between that time I would see like 100 mock draft and analysis and predictions. It would drive me insane with anticipation. I really wish they would move the draft up to the beginning of April.

Honestly, the draft is overrated. It exist to prevent bidding wars on unproven, but highly desirable players.

be curious to know which players on our team are a result of trade for pucks

and who is not , MI is one

I just don't like that the broadcast is so insanely off-time with the draft pace. I feel like the 32 first round picks happen in about an hour an a half, but announcing them takes 4 hours. Feels like you're at the horse tack.

I asked one of my uncles what was the draft like back in the day (60's & 70's) and he mentioned that there was the general excitement when a new player has joined the team, but it's no where near the hype that it is now. He also mentioned that the draft wasn't televised until the 80's.
I was curious about that because teams use to have 12 rounds back then.

I remember the 12 rounds. The second day was really uneventful. But the draft back then didn't get all the hype like it does now. The combine, mock drafts, predraft work outs, and coverage were not extensive back then. Honestly as a kid reading the papers anything after the second round was just a bunch of players I never heard of. The last 12th rounder that made an impact was a center name Chris Port. He was solid for us during the Mora era. Really the draft wasn't as interesting back then as it is now.

Actually, the draft used to be 17 rounds. There was no radio or TV broadcast, because it wasn’t the event that it is now. Also, because newspapers had early deadlines, you might only learn of a few players the next day. It could take a couple of days before they would finally print the complete list.
