don't buy that Drew's thumb is okay, seems to be flexing it constantly and protecting it

So what do you think the solution is?
None of them helped rebuild a city and possibly saved their team from moving away.
The point of me saying that was totally missed by you.He absolutely did do that, and Who Dat Nation will always love him for it. But we have to separate the past from the present and future in these decisions. Current performance and winning is all that matters. He seems to be performing at a high level, but there has a noticeable decline the last couple of years, and it can be sudden and very rapid at age 41-42 like Manning or Brady as we see now. The Saints have to weigh his ability to perform and his longevity. Keeping Drew and Teddy would be ideal, but I don't see how we can pay them enough to keep both with the offers that will come from other teams. Is another year or two of Drew worth losing Teddy who is only 27 and could be our future franchise of the next decade? Can Drew still perform at a high enough level to justify that? What happens when Drew retires and we don't have Teddy or Drew?
The point of me saying that was totally missed by you.
That comment was in response to a person saying that other qbs meant just as much to their fan bases and teams as Drew has to Ours.
Sime of the players mentioned in his post were laughable. Drew is clearly the greatest player to ever play for the Saints [not to even mention the off field stuff] and no one else is even close.
Some of the players mentioned in the post:
Manning - arguably the greatest Colt ever but there are legit players to bring to that discussion.
Farve - may not even be the best qb to ever play for the packers. Other non qb positions have players that may have been better or meant more to that team.
Montana - Rice or Young might have something to say about the greatest 49er.
Smith - if wr are talking about 49er Smith then see Montana... KC Smith then thats a Joke because I was in KC and most of the fans couldnt wait to replace him.
Flacco- Comparing Brees to Flacco. Flacco wasnt even close to the best player on his team. Maybe not even top 5 on his team when he played.
Brees is the ultimate competitor but more than that He is a smart and caring person. He has already started preparing for life after football. Brees will stop playing when he either simply wants to do something else or he feels he can no longer help the team win games.
As a fan base we need to enjoy the time left we have with him as our QB. That doesnt mean not prepare for the future. However some of the post her are absurbd at best. To say that Brees cant hit a wr downfield unless he is 10 yards open is flat out wrong. To say that he cant hit a 15 yard out route is just flat out wrong. To say these things are hard truth shows a total lack of understanding of football and what truth really is.
The truth is we are the 1st team to clinch a home playoff game this season. The truth is Drew has better command of this offense than Teddy and puts us in the best possible chance to win. The Truth is Drew is still playing at a high level maybe not his highest level but still at a level that is better than most NFL QBs.
The truth is Drew has probably meant more to this team and city than almost any other player in NFL history.
Thr truth is that we as fans need to enjoy every minute we have left with Drew as our QB.
At his worst with a noodle arm held on by 3 ligaments, Drew is still a top 5 QB which if your counting, is better than 2other teams. So if you're correct, I can only ask "who cares"?While defensiveness is rampant and out of control on this thread, I can understand that, but I think some of you should take it easy with the personal insults...
I for one and not rooting for Drew's demise or besmirching his career, quite the contrary, I've said repeatedly he's a Top 5 all-time QB who does not get his due, and is a superior QB to Aaron Rodgers and has had a better career, despite media narrative. The reason all this criticism and putting Brees under the microscope is relevant is because his contract is up, he's 41 years old, his statistical performance experienced a shift towards late last season, and they have a ready-to-go new franchise QB in Teddy Bridgewater who is currently in a Saints uniform, also about to be a free agent, and did I mention he's about to turn 41? If Drew wants to play another season, the Saints are going to have a very difficult decision to make on the future of the franchise.
And if you want to compare how teams handle this sort of business just ask the 49ers with Montana, Packers with Favre, Colts with Peyton, Broncos with Peyton, Chiefs with Alex, Ravens with Flacco, Giants with Eli, etc. No one is safe and no one is immune because all of these men were integral and beloved by the fanbases and mgmt. My point has always been, to enjoy this season with Drew Brees and to not take Drew's presence beyond this season for granted. And it also does not mean they're out for the SB. They can still win and I hope they do. It's not bashing him, it's just being a realist.
Drew was razor sharp against the Falcons. There are times that he deserves criticism, but the last game was not one of them. Good game plan with quick passes to mask the backups on the left side of the line and he executed it well. Inexplicable dropped passes stalled the offense.I actually thought his throws had noticeably more zip on them against the Falcons on Thanksgiving. His deep throws were a little off target, but they def had more distance and velocity on them. Hope he can keep it up
I saw “zip, deep throw depth and deep accuracy” on Thursday night. Taking off the brace isn’t going to help guys catch the ball.I want to see Drew throw after he finally ditches that brace on his thumb. If he still lacks zip, deep throw depth and deep accuracy, then this is how he is from now on.... until it gets even worse.
The most frustrating thing is that the last few times when Drew has thrown a really nice deep ball, either Ginn or Cook dropped it!
Honestly his throws had noticeably more 'zip' on them since the Carolina game, I think that was the turning point where he finally trusted the strength in his thumb to where he just let the deeper throws rip.I saw “zip, deep throw depth and deep accuracy” on Thursday night. Taking off the brace isn’t going to help guys catch the ball.
Exactly my dude. The last two weeks, Drew has thrown some long balls right on the money that receivers have dropped.
That's NOT on Drew.
He probably can't throw six or eight long balls a game, and maybe only 30-35 yards instead of 50 in air, but he can still pinpoint it downfield in the secondary enough to keep a team honest.
Let's pick this up after the season.
