I don't get it?

Here you have one of the truly good guys in all of sports. He's a family man. He gives back to his community. He is beyond elite and will likely hold most of the major passing records when he retires. He's never been even remotely involved in any kind of scandal. He never says a bad word about any other team or any other players.

Yet to hear fans around the league talk, he's nothing but a greedy money-grubbing stat hound, he's "on the decline", he's too old, too short, and he's got a mole on his face, and even when he signs a contract that is totally beneficial to his team, he still gets raked over the coals because he wants too much money.

It's infuriating, I feel like the whole world is stupid right now.

Every athlete gets the in decline talk when they reach their mid 30's. Heck, it's been verified he's lost approximately 9% of his arm strength from last season[edit: cannot find the proof, while I remember the source as being valid when it was posted here originally, I cannot find the source post here or a verification from the Internet, so my apologies]. His ceiling was so high to begin with that he's able to compensate, but don't pretend he's as physically strong as he was 3 years ago. He'll be one of the elite QB's this year, and probably next year, so pointing out the obvious isn't disrespect.

Past that, I'm not sure what you are on about. Many players get more overt hate that Brees gets. Remember the Internet is for cat photos, porn, and hiding behind a screen name to spew hate speech. If you look for it, you'll find negativety pointed to just about anyone even marginally famous. I got into a friendly argument with an Atlanta fan at work about football, and he pointed out Brees' mole. I asked why that mattered and he said it was because Brees is too nice a guy and it's hard coming up with something of substance to hate on.

Many reputable sources declared the Brees deal team friendly. Money grubbing is the last thing you'd use to describe that contract, and I was one of the ones expecting Brees to try and maximize his profit in the 4 year, 100M, 60 guaranteed range. Given his age and status, that's about the best contract the Saints could have expected. Anyone that states otherwise would have said something negative if he signed for the veteran minimum.

I really do not see nor hear the hate you are referring to. Doubt? Yes. Even some of our fans have doubts now and again. But there is generally huge respect for Brees and what he has achieved on and off the field. And who cares what others think and say.? I think you are being overly sensitive.

We are a tight knit bunch - a family - of which Brees and every Saints player/coach/staff/fan is a part of.

If you don't know what he's talking about then you either don't get out much, or you don't read the comments section of various Brees-related articles very much. His perception of the consensus is spot on.

Who cares. They are mad for two reasons. 1) Saints locked him up and their team can't get him. And/or 2) Saints locked him up and their team will have to face him. CAR and ATL fans 2B) They will have to face him twice.

Don't sweat it, haters gonna hate!

They are all "Neidhammel" translation "Envy-mutton"

Neidhammel is a german expression to describe someone who is so full of stupid envy that he does not what anybody to have something he doesnt have.

the reasons you complain are the exact reasons I don't watch, listen too, or read sports talk type stuff. There's very rarely, if ever, positive articles about the saints or our players. I just decided a couple years ago I had enough and knew everything I wanted to know about Dallas, Seattle, the Giants, and the Jets which are the only teams any of that type of stuff want you to know about. If there's any news I want to hear about the Saints I hear it right here.

Joe Montana was like that with me. I hated him so much and he was a genuine good guy and hof

Well, I'm pretty sure Drew & co (between 06 and now), has embarrassed every other fans' team (excluding Baltimore), so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Part of it has been the ESPN love of Manning and Brady for the past 15 years where "everyone else" sounds like a pedestrian QB (with the possible exception of Rogers.)

So the bulk of the NFL fanbase doesn't necessarily understand Drew, his records, and what he's all about in general.

I'm right there with you.

I was done with national media when Dez "may" been at a Wal-Mart and "may" have pushed a girl in a car and "may" have left them came back. The video was like 4 years see old blah. I don't know what came from it but I felt the story was poorly developed and reporters dont have enough patients or class to let develop and present facts.

OP I used to read brees comments then and get frudtrated then I realized that least knowledgable people about any situation always have the most to say. Example people call his birthmark a mole. They opinion is already invalid. Don't judge the world on this most good loving hard-working people are not going to go out their way to bash someone birthmark. But ignorant people with nothing to do will.

We trash Cam Newton and Matt Ryan on this board as if they were hacks. Cam is very special. It's just sports fans.
