They already made an attempt to sign Winston, what’s to stop them from doing that rather than trading the farm for Rodgers?Steelers going after Aaron Rodgers
Yeah. Gale Benson and Mickey Loomis wouldn’t allow a player to come running to them with grievances about the coach. They definitely wouldn’t fight it out in the media. See how Payton handled the CGM situation and how it turned out? Brilliant. See how the Pats handled the Brady and Gronk situations? Let them walk. No player is bigger than the team or organization. That's another huge red flag with him. Look at the way the team embraced Winston, they wouldn't do that to Rodgers and if he ever clashes with Payton over something, watch out. Season over, contract blown up, etc.
It’s what you strive for. It’s why so many QBs go in the first round every year. You never settle, you continue looking for the next Ton Brady, Drew Brees or Rodgers. We have one of the greatest offense minds and systems in the NFL so you find the right plug in you don’t change the systemYeah cause that finding QB's in the NFL is so easy
That was last year. They already made an attempt to sign Winston, what’s to stop them from doing that rather than trading the farm for Rodgers?
No, what Loomis and the front office are very good at is actually putting together contracts that players will play through and get paid for. Many contracts have vanity numbers that the players will never actually see in their pockets. The Saints generally don’t do this. If Winston were toObviously, you don’t know Payton and Loomis. They’re wizards at taking what others think are nothing and making great players out of them in their system for nice but not outrageous contracts. Look at what they did in 16 years with Brees. Most QBs would have made four times what Brees made with other teams.
And this offseason Rapelesburger is retiring and the Steelers are left with Haskins, and more cap space than the Saints. While “In Mickey we Trust” the Steelers are starting out with $35-46MM in cap space, while the Saints are starting $60-70MM over. That was last year.

TJay certainly has some takes. He has a valid point with the warrior take. This is a game full of warriors, and Taysom playing injured may appear more “warriory” but it’s not like others aren’t doing that and it’s going unreported. Also, Jameis didn’t get to play with CGM this season (that’s true).Shut up “TJAY”. Clown
I’d much rather have JW at the helm as TH isn’t our answer and that’s clear. But, he’s about all we have so….time to finish the dance.
Quick money isn't always the best money. He didn't come here for money, although I'm sure he wants to get paid like a top QB eventually. Outside of maybe Pitt (they even have Haskins who may takeover next year), there is no team that can offer him a chance to be a starter on a playoff-caliber roster.Winston may get a few offers that the Saints won't match.
And for now, Payton thinks he’s found the right plug in Winston. Both he and Brees thought that before Brees retired. Notice that Brees criticizes the play of the offense, but not the players within it. He knows how devastating injuries have crippled the offense. He’s never criticized Jameis, Hill, or Semien. It’s what you strive for. It’s why so many QBs go in the first round every year. That’s the point I was making and you just made it. So why the “no?”No, what Loomis and the front office are very good at is actually putting together contracts that players will play through and get paid for. Many contracts have vanity numbers that the players will never actually see in their pockets. The Saints generally don’t do this. If Winston were to
Sign a 5 year 100 million dollar contract with the Saints, it would be fully expected that at the end he will have made 100 million. There are exceptions, like Taysom (still a huh moment) but as a whole the saints don’t play games with contracts
Have you ever thought that maybe it’s not all on the player? You have to be able to communicate with the younger generation. The “old” way isn’t always the best way. Learn how to connect with them and then communicate with them. Professionalism is a two-way street. Notice how effective and dynamic Nick Saban is with those 18-22 year old kids? And Nick is close to 70.Haskins apparently has a problem with basic professionalism. I’ve seen some reports lately that the staffs patience is running out with him.
I still believe coaches should call plays to highlight the strengths of the roster and hide their weaknesses. It’s what you strive for. It’s why so many QBs go in the first round every year. You never settle, you continue looking for the next Ton Brady, Drew Brees or Rodgers.
