I'm curious about this one too. The cast is great, Turturro is directing and Ethan Coen is a co-writer.

This part gives me some hope it won't be a derivative turd: : "The film also acts as a remake of Bertrand Blier’s 1974 French comedy Going Places (Les Valseuses)."

It could be that the "spin-off" is more marketing than a true reflection of the film.
