Actually no. I like how it goes. Except for a few franchises, every franchise goes through at least a playoff appearance every few years.

I think the introduction of the Salary cap is what changed the playoff dynamics. Some teams had the money to buy sucessful teams, while others struggled to compete for talent.

When there was no salary cap and free agency, and only 4 teams per conference went to the playoffs in a 26-team league, it was easier for a few teams to dominate for years, with other teams never sniffing the playoffs (Saints of the 70s).

With a salary cap and free agency, and now that almost half the league goes to the playoffs, what the Jets have managed is a real accomplishment.
