Go ahead and put me on record that Dez Bryant is done and that we'd be stupid to sign him at this point.

I’m still curious as to what WR4 are better than Kirkwood.

It’s not like WR4 is a position of need on the team.

Kirkwood had like 15 catches and 4TDs in really limited action.

That’s more TDS than Hogan had in NE.

Like what WR4 are comparing him too or competing with. Nobody says “we need to improve our WR4 position” it’s just nonsense. It’s a backup role mostly, a WR4 hardly sees the field. Our guy is talented. Like what WR4 is putting up good numbers that you’re jealous of?

Thomas, Ginn, Smith, and Kirkwood. I think those are your top 4, as of now, but it could change by the start of the season. I think Grayson, Butler, Carr and Humphrey are all battling for a spot. I've been really impressed with what I've heard/seen of Butler and Grayson. While I wouldn't be shocked if we brought in a vet at some point, I definitely think we have ample competition at receiver. Plus, at the end of the day I think Cook will be the teams 2nd in targets and receiving yards. We should be just fine.

This is unfortunate because Josh Hill is actually a good receiver. When he first came into the league he was a good receiving tight end in college and the coach wanted him to be that 1b to Jimmy Graham. But over the years his main role has changed to more of a blocking tight end and occasional decoy receiver.

He's not much of a receiver, he has measurable though (6'5 250lbs 4.6) but it does not translate to the field as he' not an "athletic" tight end but he is a capable blocker with straight line speed....he's a good #2 tightend.

I can see making that statement for a No2 WR, but not a No4. Makes no sense. The No4 is just about always a home-grown project.

If you're talking about Dez, he won't be the No4 if he signs.

Well if Kirkwood is healthy I could see:

WR1: Thomas
WR2: Ginn
WR3: Kirkwood
WR4: Smith

IF we keep 5 WR's it would be Butler, maybe Grayson and Humphries to practice squad.
Then you still have Cobbs which has had a good camp too.

Need to see these guys sub in with the 1's to really see what's up.
Going to be interesting in the next 3 weeks.

To be completely honest, I'm really hoping that Tre'Quan Smith makes that leap. I'm also hoping the Saints indeed struck gold and Emmanuel Butler has a Colston-esque rookie campaign. I'd love nothing more than to see Lil'Jordan Humphrey have everything click and really make a name for himself these last few weeks in camp, and that Cyril Graysom gets a leg up on Deonta Harris in the return game and makes enough Devery Henderson-type catches in camp and pre-season games that the Saints cut Ted Ginn.

My hope is:

WR 1 = Michael Thomas / Keith Kirkwood
WR 2 = Emmanuel Butler / Lil'Jordan Humphrey
WR 3 = Tre'Quan Smith / Cyril Graysom or Deonta Harris

TE 1 = Jared Cook
TE 2 = Josh Hill
TE 3 = Taysom Hill or someone currently not on roster.

Why am I hoping some of these young pups force the Saints to cut Ginn? Because Ginn is old, and he has never had reliable hands. I hoped Golden Tate or someone like that would have signed with the Saints. I hope the name Dez Bryant never surfaces, because he hasn't played since Dec 2017, and is pas bon when it comes to staying in football shape when not with a team; plus he just isn't good anymore. I'd argue Saints do need a solid veteran WR, but they need one that can play - and that person isn't currently on the roster and I hate the idea of keeping Ginn because everyone else is too green. I'd rather keep the talent.

I hope the staff converts Taysom to a TE, because the guy isn't and never will be a NFL QB.

Unless something changes Ginn and Smith will be the number 2/3 wideouts after Thomas. But after that there is a major dropoff on the roster. So I think either a trade at the end of the preseason or player who is on the bubble who gets cut from team that has better WR depth then the Saints.

Maybe it's a little early but about 2 weeks from now, I think some names start to come out of WR available.

I disagree. Butler, Kirkwood, Grayson, Carr, and Humphrey are all vying for the 4 and 5 spot. I'd actually be surprised if our 4 and 5 guys aren't on the team already.

I believe the best move would be to stand pat and let These guys keep competing. It’s been one game. Kirkwood, Butler and Lil Jordy all could likely fill that spot.

This to me is making moves for the sake of making moves and I don’t think we are there just yet. We need to see these guys play with Brees before we make that determination as well.

I can't argue with that. I haven't been to practices or anything. Just going off of last year and the first game, I'd say he hasn't looked as good as we'd hoped when drafting him so far. Maybe he's looked better in camp? I haven't kept up with him too much. His route running seemed a little sharper in the game. I guess time will tell.

The deal with Ginns hands is purely old news. 2018 was a short year for Ginn because of injury so his low number of drops (2) could be attributed to that. So lets look at 2017. Ginn had exactly 2 again!

Know who was worse? Just a few:
Edelman - 8
Evans - 8
Tate (Oops!) - 8
Jared Cook - 6
Julio Jones - 5
Kelce - 5
Smith-Schuster - 5
Thielen - 5

And I could list about 20 or 30 more with more drops than Ginn.

He was steadily improving before he came here. His hands being bad are a urban myth dating back to years ago. Every offseason he has worked with a receiving specialist to improve his hands. Every year he has gotten better.

Yes he has some years on him, but he still has unreal speed and very good hands.
