I noticed during preseason that OL hasn't played well, especially in the run game. I assumed that it was preseason and we were going to get it together. Last week we played ok, especially in pass protection, but the line appears to be different. Are we trying a new blocking scheme this year as opposed to what we had last year?

Yeah. One where the QB doesn't call out the reads and assignments.

Funny. Taysom didn’t do that last year when he played and the line didn’t play this poorly.

Missing McCoy made it tougher. Missing so many position coaches made it a lot tougher. This isn’t about the QB nearly as much as it’s about injuries, attrition and players simply not playing well.

The game is won and lost in the trenches. If the O line doesn't improve, we won't have a good season. Yeah, I get that McCoy is out and we didn't have our O line or TE coach, but there were too many whiffs against the Panthers. Peat looked terrible in particular and continues to be a liability. Even Armstead and Ram surrendered pressures. All around just a really bad performance, and the unit simply has to get better if we are to have a chance this season.

Yesterday was a combination of things. Panthers had a great scheme overloading the edges, they have some athletes who can fly. Also, missing McCoy made a difference picking up protection. In reality, this was our first true game since we didn't have a final preseason game. Things will get fixed, it just wasn't our day.

What an ignorant response. Hill wasn’t missing 9 teammates and 8 coaches either.

I don’t think the post you quoted means what you think it means. The comment was regarding our QB’s (both of them) inability to call out the protections. It was a response to more of the same Winston vs. Hill noise.

Get Reiter up to speed ASAP… plug him in at Center and move Ruiz back to RG.

Throckmorton is not a starting caliber OL, and Ruiz needs to stay at RG and continue to develop.
I believe we can get our pass blocking back on track, but i'm worried about the run blocking. We haven't seen anything yet to suggest that we won't struggle.

Bottom line, it was just a bad day at the office for the Saints. . No other way to dissect it. It happens.

Last year, the Saints beat the Buccaneers twice during the regular season. In week 9, the Saints the score was 38-3. There are times when the team will be down. Yesterday was one of them. I do think that being displaced is starting to wear on the team.

I don't see the need to panic just yet.

the total 180 of the o-line was baffling

You can't blame the whole thing on McCoy being out, it's not like he was injured late in the 4th against green Bay

There was a play against the Packers when Jameis had so much time to throw the ball he just stood still for what seemed like a full 2 seconds

I don't know that I've ever seen that before in an NFL game - He was standing there like a dad on Thanksgiving

Yesterday there was someone in his face half a second after snapping the ball

Jameis said there was also communication issues. The crowd did affect the line (multiple false starts), combined with the fact that we were using our backup QB (Ian Book) to communicate substitutions so we were always rushing to the line with 10 seconds left. It was just a combination of errors that added up to the whole mess.

I said at least two dozen times yesterday that we're getting plays in too slowly. Stupid TV wouldn't listen.

All I know is that we have 262 total passing yards....in 2 games.
