Marvel The Punisher series greenlighted on Netflix

Anyone who's seen Daredevil season 2 on Netflix has been clamoring for more Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal) and it looks like Netflix and Marvel have heard us:

Netflix has just announced that The Punisher has been officially ordered as a spinoff to Daredevil on the streaming service. The new series will mark the sixth overall Marvel series, in addition to the previously announced four series which will culminate into the Defenders miniseries.

nothing I've read so far says when the series would start production and premier on Netflix but I wouldn't be surprised if they were already fast tracking this due to audience response. It seemed like it took a while to get an EP for Iron Fist (in production currently) but they already have one for Punisher.

I never watched Hannibal on NBC, was it any good? The show runner from that show will run the Punisher.

Not likely. Luke Cage premiers on Netflix this fall. Production was underway in NYC last fall and I assume has wrapped. Iron Fist is currently under production now.

The only thing this news may affect is the Defenders series. Plan was to start production on that later this year.

I enjoyed Hannibal, but it wasn't for everyone. Visually it was an impressive show and Hannibal's artistic take on graphic violence and gore should be interesting when paired with the Punisher.

not only the visuals
but Hannibal also handled its psychology very well which will be good for The Punisher
it also played a lot in that "what is a hero/villain" arena like Daredevil did this season
