The Queen's Gambit (Netflix) (1 Viewer)

I searched for superchuck and it pulled up a member since 2011 and not you also.

Didn't think a search for "superchuck" would not pull up anyone that had that in their name.

An imposter?!

Had to search Superchuck500, not just superchuck.
That superchuck registered June 15, 2011. Was last online June 16, 2011. Sure you didn't chicken out?

No, I had no idea about chess.com until last week. I'm still really impressed by the whole thing.

Is this something I can watch with my girl teen?

I'd watch with my 13 year old daughter. She wasn't interested when I watched the first time, but I'd watch it again with her.

Just know that...
There's drug and alcohol use by kids and young adults. Could spur some good conversations about addiction in children and adults. Mild language. Mild sex scenes with little to no nudity

late to the party yet again but I finished this last night when I got disgusted with the you know what. What a great series and that finale alone is an award winner. The cinematography is by far the best I have seen in a really really long time. I don't know if this has been covered but I found this really interesting article regarding some of the shots

it's crazy. she pulled off the character flawlessly. i binged the series last night/early morning after starting it as something while my xanax kicked in. never made it to sleep.

i haven't read the book in over 25 years, but the show made it as i remembered. one day, i'll re-read it. definitely a book worthy of it.

I think for those familiar with Bobby Fischer’s life arc in chess (I wasn’t until recently), the parallels between Beth and Bobby are obvious - both in the micro as some of Beth’s personality traits and sub-storylines (Fischer wasn’t an orphan but his dad left when he was 2, he was identified as a prodigy through the local chess community and began challenging the local high school players when he was still quite young, etc.) draw from Fischer’s but also in the macro as Beth, like Fischer, found herself a David figure, battling the Goliath of Soviet chess - and success was elusive. And if Beth’s arc is like Bobby’s, then Borgov is Spassky.

Also apparently other aspects of Beth’s life are influenced by Tevis’s life, including being on heavy medications as a child.

Interesting stuff:

Hopefully Beth’s later life experience won’t be like Fischer’s - good lord.
