once they are seen to be in the wrong, do the cops have the right to be on his property?

If the officer has jurisdiction, the standard to enter upon open property is very low. If it is obvious that he's in the wrong or if he admits he's in the wrong and the landowner (or equivalent) instructs him to leave, I think he has to leave with reasonable promptness. But if it is not obvious or there is at least some possible doubt, the officer is entitled to continue to investigate as long as it doesn't reach a point where a warrant is necessary.
 
Is there another way they thought that was going to go?
