First, it should be pointed out that white people do fall victim to the broken institutions within the American police force, but the harms are concentrated much, much more toward people of color. Statistics bear this out.If the black dude was a cop, yes. Happens all the time, coops get the benefit of the doubt regardless of color of cop or victim. Jeremy Mardis’ killer was on the street for 6 days while investigations were ongoing and only got arrested because he turned himself in, then was out on bail for the next year awaiting trial. Cop=black, victim=white autistic 6yo boy. Many more examples.
I think people also struggle with the idea that if a system is racist and broken, a person can still be the same color as the most prominent victims of that unjust system and be perpetuating it. It’s not a mutually exclusive idea. An individual need not be personally racist, or of the same color of the predominant abusers, to protect and advance a racist system.
