Pretty much every SEC fan will tell you that the SEC is the strongest conference in NCAA. If Auburn goes on to win the NCG that will be 5 straight years an SEC team has won it. Then you throw in LSU in '03 and you got 6 of the last 8 NC from the SEC.

The PAC 10 will gain a little conference strength by adding 2 teams and give them a conference championship game, but will still come up way short in terms of strength compared to the SEC.

The Big 12 will lose a little with Colorado going to the PAC 10 and i'm not sure who or if they will bring in anyone to replace them.

The Big 10 I think is bringing in 2 more teams which should help their cause and give them a conference championship game.

The Big East and ACC are still a step down from the above conferences but are getting better.

So given this and the SEC's string of NC, if Auburn wins this year will it pretty much seal the SEC and the toughest conference in the NCAA?

Also, has any conference ever won 5 straight NC's?

I thought this was sealed a few years ago :idunno:

There's just not an argument for any other conference at this time. 5 of the last 7 BCS titles, 4 straight BCS titles, 6 of the total 12 BCS titles, 4 different teams with at least 1 BCS title (UT, LSU, UF, UA). 2nd place is the Big 12 with 2 BCS titles with 2 different teams separated by 5 years. This also shows the SEC doesn't have just 1 team dominating to make them look stronger (USC).

And if Auburn (or maybe even LSU depending on what all goes down) wins the BCS title game, that would then be 6 of 8 BCS titles, 5 consecutive BCS titles, 7 of 13 total BCS titles, and 5 different teams with at least 1 BCS title. That's INSANE. Over half the titles in one conference? 5 teams in a 12-team conference with titles in 13 years? Those are dominating numbers.

And it seems every year, there are 4 or more SEC teams ranked with 2 being in the top 10 at the beginning of the year AND at the end.

2002 - Preseason: 3 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Postseason: 1 in the top 10, 3 in the top 25
2003 - Preseason: 1 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Postseason: 2 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25
2004 - Preseason: 2 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Postseason: 2 in the top 10, 4 in the top 25
2005 - Preseason: 3 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Postseason: 3 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25
2006 - Preseason: 3 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Postseason: 3 in the top 10, 6 in the top 25
2007 - Preseason: 2 in the top 10, 6 in the top 25; Postseason: 2 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25
2008 - Preseason: 4 in the top 10, 6 in the top 25; Postseason: 2 in the top 10, 4 in the top 25
2009 - Preseason: 3 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Postseason: 2 in the top 10, 4 in the top 25
2010 - Preseason: 2 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25; Currently: 2 in the top 10, 5 in the top 25

Looking at those numbers, only twice were there large discrepancies from preseason to postseason. But in both cases (2002 and 2008), it was because the SEC had 3 and 4 teams start in the top 10. In 2002, the three teams were UGA, UT, and UF. With them all being in the SEC East, they were all going to play each other. So unless they all split and gave each other their only loss, there wasn't any way for all 3 to remain in the top 10. And in 2008, the four teams were LSU, UF, AU, and UGA. LSU and UGA played all 3 and UF and AU played 2. There was no possible way for more than 2 of them end up in the top 10 due to those matchups.

I've heard many people say the SEC gets the benefit of the doubt too often and that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, but the fact is the SEC continues to win those big games. And remember this, every time an SEC team is in the BCS championship, that puts the #2 SEC team in the Sugar Bowl instead of the #1 and the #3 SEC team in the Capital One Bowl instead of the #2. Essentially it moves everyone up one spot, which gives other conferences an advantage in the matchups. Yet the SEC continually wins more bowl games than most, if not all, other conferences.

A lot of fans of other conferences don't understand the unity SEC fans have, but without the other 11 teams in the conference, the SEC wouldn't be considered the best and that would've kept some of the eventual BCS champs out of the game. UF in '06 and LSU in '07 immediately come to mind. So personally, I want all SEC teams to beat all their OOC opponents and win every game possible until it negatively affects LSU's SEC and BCS title hopes. Because the SEC being seen as the best conference only helps LSU when it comes down to them and another conference's teams. If the SEC wasn't seen as being so tough, I doubt LSU would currently be the highest-ranked 1-loss team.

There's the NFL, the SEC, and ordinary college football.
