I had the same thought. Some movies are not meant to have sequels.

IIRC Winston Groom actually wrote a sequel novel to take advantage of the movie's popularity. I never read it but i believe some poorly conceived stuff happened like Lt Dan screwing him out of the business etc. That said, i believe Ken Stabler recruits him to play for the Saints, so that would have been fun.
