I totally agree. As far as the defense, I wonder if the signing of Rodgers and Franklin have back fired on the defense. Rogers just isn't doing much as a pass rusher and Franklin is never going to be a pass rushers. That doesn't seem to fit into William's scheme and I think it might be hurting the blitz packages. When we had guys in the middle who would penetrate, it force QBs outside and/or forced the RB into the hole to block the DT. That left the blitzers with open shots at the QB and we are not getting that this year. Of course, it's also possible that they have just adjusted the blocking to our blitz packages, but I'm not football savy enough to make that call. That being said, they did destroy Cutler with the pressure, so any given game they may come out and do that again. And, when they do, we are totally unstoppable.

I totally disagree. Rogers and Franklin have both been very good when they are used. Franklin eats space and Rogers gets doubled a lot while pass rushing. If not, he bulldozes his man deep into the backfield.

The problem is the layer behind them, especially against the run and screens, particularly WR screens. All the LBs stink. Vilma included, though he occasionally flashes and makes a play in pass coverage because his brain figured something out.

The offense has looked very efficient at times. But I have to think that in order to win a championship, we're going to have to be able run the ball when people know we are running the ball at some point. Even pass happy Green Bay used their running game to make their playoff run last year (remember Starks emerging and shocking people).

Even the games this year where our offense has looked good, we haven't been able to impose our will running the ball. This has to change in order to have the type of success we want.

It's the type of thing that can be fixed. It might be Kruetz; I'm not sure. I seriously think we have a tell. Somehow we're tipping off the run.

I don't think the running problem is a tell, it's just bad blocking. Part of that is Charles Brown and Olin Kreutz and part of that is that Nicks and Evans just aren't getting any push and they aren't getting to the second level to finish off plays. That can change when Streif gets back, a change at center and if we find a way to light fire under Evans and Nicks.

As far as Rodgers and Franklin, I haven't seen what you see in Rodgers. He occasionally does that, but more often than not, he seems to get stoned at the line. As far as Franklin, he is doing his job as run stuff and it is the LBs giving up the runs, but what I'm saying is that he doesn't really seem to fit what we do best in terms of needing a penetrator in the middle. I just haven't seen any push from Rodgers and Franklin.

one tell is that we make it painfully obvious we are running the ball 9/10 times that ingram gets on field. i also agree that the big problems on defense are the linebackers, jv not-included. the dude is still playing good football.

The real question is why it's so hard to run. I'm not buying the "giving away a tell" theory at all. Many teams run when you know they are running and don't have these kinds of problems.

I'd rather 3rd and 5 than 3rd and less than one on this team. Thats pathetic.

For some reason SR "villafies" certain players and others they give a free pass to due to bias. I don't get it. I love the Saints, not individual players. Well, except maybe for Brees. ;)

Players that get a free pass that I believe are part of the problem.

1) Vilma- yet everyone blames everything on Shanle. Vilma has just looked totally incompetent out there. Yet, it's always Shanle's fault when he misses a tackle from the opposite side. I'm not saying Shanle doesn't need to be upgraded but based on watching Vilma MLB almost appears to be our number one priority in the draft. I'm not buying the "defensive qb" theory. I just don't see it paying any dividends. We need an aggressive thumper that doesn't run around blocks that has a nose for the ball. I can't tell you what a Ray Lewis type(I realize this is an extreme example) would do for this defense.

2) Our all world guards. yet the entire reason we can't run is on Kreutz. This is hilarious and I'm not going to bother with it. Our guards are good but not the all world forces we think they are.

3) Ellis is good, but not great. Many times they single block him easily. This is not an all pro player by any means.

There's quite a few things that keep us from being the dominant force we were in 2009, and one of the main problems is things we think are "set" are far from it.

Kellen Winslow is, without a doubt, the biggest punk *** ***** in the National Football League.

I always knew he was a dick, but watching him the past 2 weeks left me without a doubt.

My eyes are starting to bleed with twits calling Kreutz a traitor and a coward.

Quitter? Sure, regardless of his reasons, he quit. I can understand some bawling about that, but some of our fan base needs to get a grip on reality.
