The widely assumed 4th round compensatory pick... (1 Viewer)

Nicks thought we low balled him, he rejected our offer.

Nicks was greedy. We offered him good money.

Porter and Meachem knew they could command more cash elsewhere and parted ways amicably after declining the contracts on offer.

Dunbar however took similar cash with the Rams but primarily went there chasing playing time and got it so no doubt some nice incentives will have been triggered in his contract . And good for him. :9:

Ok so no compensatory pick. :covri:

Now we need Loomis to weave some cap magic so we can score in free agency! :hihi:

Reading up what is a qualified player, the club needs to place a qualifying offer on the table by 1-June.

Shaun Rogers signed with the Giants prior to that date but he was medically inactive and placed on IR, so he probably doesn't qualify.

Aubrayo Franklin was released and was signed after 1-June, so he doesn't count either.

Leigh Torrence signed with a couple teams but never made opening day rosters.

So with these three guys not counting as losses, the Saints can't qualify for comp. Final decisions will come out during the owners meeting.

so why not do this:

if we don't intend to keep them or know they're gonna walk, offer them a low ball one year contract (and structured so that we don't get cap hit if we cut them). then when they refuse it and sign somewhere else, they count towards the comp pick. it's a punk move and wouldn't make the player(s) happy but it's business...

Then tell me why these players are not considered losses?

Both Nicks and porter where offered contracts.

What differentiates them is "perceived value."

Because they have to be a qualified signing for another team. Just like a guy that decides to retire at the end of his contract isn't a loss even if we offer him a deal. The nfl deals in signed contracts, not contract discussions. Learn what a qualified signing is instead of arguing about what a qualified loss is and you will get it - I promise.

You just don't get it. It's ok man. We can't all expect to grasp the seemingly simple.
