The New York Jets have completed a trade that will send linebacker Jonathan Vilma to the New Orleans Saints. In return the Jets will receive a 4th round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft that could be upgrade to a 3rd round pick based on how Vilma performs in 2008. [link]

The information concerning the trade was published by most of the sports media outlets indicated that the initial trade compensation would be a conditional 3rd or 4th round pick.

Dan Leberfeld from Jet Confidential posted on Feb 29 that the information of which was initially reported and published was incorrect.

Here are the correct details which have now been confirmed:

Jets will now receive a 2008 4th round pick that could turn into a 2009 2nd or 3rd round pick based upon Vilma reaching certain incentives and signing a contract extension.

If the Jets end up getting one of those 2009 picks, they would then send their 4th round pick to the Saints....
