After making the no-brainer pick of Williamson first overall, the Pelicans set about surrounding their new franchise centerpiece with the kind of complementary talent who can help propel him toward stardom and contention. With the no. 8 pick came Texas freshman Jaxson Hayes, a rim-running shot-blocker heralded as perhaps the draft’s most accomplished pick-and-roll finisher and lob target. At no. 17, New Orleans snagged Virginia Tech guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, the cousin of Clippers guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who shares some of the rising sophomore’s exciting attributes as a big, versatile playmaker with poise and panache in the pick-and-roll.

I am curiously on board with the new look team but as a small market team its hard to forget all the bye-byes to the Davis' (Barons and Anthonys) Pauls and Wests of the world. I may buy a jersey. Any brand in particular that works well for bonfires after its over?

we love to hate on a lot of stupid things in the NFL especially with this Commish and his no fun policies and partial treatment, but the measures that were put in place long ago to maintain parity actually work. That is one thing I am grateful for.

Once upon a time, the Saints couldn't pay top tier players to even visit.

Thankfully, the hiring of Griff has netted the Pels enough draft picks to sustain the Pels roster with young, cheap talent for a while. If they win, the rest usually takes care of itself.

Seth Dunlap had a guest from CBS sports on his show last night. I can't remember his name, but he said the Pelicans will be the team
to beat in the next 3-5 years. He said he based his opinion on the history of the league the last 40 years. Great teams were built
through the draft. Bird and Mchale with Boston, Magic and Kobe with LA, Jordan and Pippen in Chi. GS with Curry,Green, and
Thompson. SA with Robinson and Duncan. He went on to say if Zion does become the best player in the league in a few seasons
he expects multiple titles for the Pelicans. Zion can be the the Pelicans equivalent to the Saints Drew Brees

I'm not a big basketball fan by I'm the most excited I've probably ever been about watching Pels games this year. This is gonna be the most fun team in the NBA.

I think the league is vastly overrating the Lakers chances, and vastly underrating the Pelicans.

Lebron is another year older, and AD is injury-prone. If they get Kawhi, that could change the balance, but the Pels are a young, hungry, fast team that will be exciting to watch.

Not crowning them yet, either. Even if Kawhi goes to L.A. , he might find himself all too often dragging along a weak roster while LBJ and AD are nursing injuries.

Now ... if they get all three of those guys healthy come mid-April, then all bets are off.

im not try to ear this 'pelicans won't be a playoff team yet' malarkey
i think they'll be competitive on their own merit but the west just got hit with a major parity wave
Pels are feeling like a deep run playoff team

I really it doesn't turn out this way, but with Zion coming in and Drew heading out its very possible that NOLA becomes a basketball first town in the next few years. I do think it's premature to call the Pelicans contenders, but I really like this team on paper. They have talent. They have great character. They have capital for now and the future and best of all, they're going to get better before they get worse. I'm still not convinced that Gentry is the coach that will get them where they want to go, but I think this team will be fine to watch.
