I wouldn't say signing a 30 year old for 8-years/$136 million is the wisest move but I guess it can't hurt right Cubs fans?

Soriano will be on the DL every other week now. The Cubs just destroyed another great career.

That's baseball. The Tigers traded three good young pitching prospects for the almost 40 year old Gary Sheffield, and then gave him a 3 year contract extension.

And while I don't think Soriano makes instant contenders, I do think they will be a factor in the wildcard race this year.

Barring injury, I can't see this move as anything but good for the Cubs. Soriano is coming off a 40/40 season. The North Siders can definitely use his skills.
