This too. One of my students (I'm an adjunct college prof) wore a Nirvana shirt to class recently. I gave her a nod and said, "Nice! Good to see some of my students know good music!"
To which her response was, "I'm actually not familiar with their music, I just thought it was a cool shirt." I was in disbelief. I figured she was not trying to look to the rest of the class like she shared the same taste in music as the Micro teacher, God forbid the cools points lost or something. So I say, "name 1 Nirvana song, and I will GIVE you 100 points on the quiz tonight." Her eyes go wide when she realizes I'm as serious as an infection. "Can I Google it?! I'll be quick!"
"No. Wait...do you know who Kurt Kobain is? "
"Is this about Nirvana still? Do I get points?"
I'm old.
