My girlfriend and I have been together for almost 4 years now. We aren't married but we live together. Well every year for our anniversary (its June 23rd) we go visit somewhere for a few days. Last year we went to Gatlinburg, Tn and feel in love with it. Well this year, she suggested that we go visit Arkansas since we both have never been there. I'm fine with it cause she comes with me when I go to New Orleans for Saints games. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone on here has vacationed in Arkansas? How was it and what is there to do there?

my sister lives in Fayetteville and we drove thru the Ozarks...I remember seeing plenty of "Ozark towns" that offered B & B in the mountains. I would definately start there.

Went on Petite Jean mountain at some resort that was built by a psychiatrist. It was designed to get away from everyday hectic life as we know it. The cabins were beautiful but I hated it. No TV or radio and it was a dry county. Had to drive a far way to stock up on beverages because we were unaware it was a dry county. The only thing entertaining to do was go to a little country store on the resort (well besides sex). I'll never go again.:jauhnny: There was also hiking....hated that too. I guess that's why we like N.O. so much:hihi:

Once you get off the I30, Arkansas is actually quite beautiful.

I used to make rock climbing trip up to Mt. Magazine a couple of times a year. Very nice.

When I lived in Shreveport used to drive to Lake Greeson for a weekend.

my old man is from arkansas so i have been a handful of times to visit his parents, sister and brothers.....i dunno, i don't remember it ever being a place i would want to vacation.....

we would often drive to missouri and stay at a place in the ozark mountains.....the resort was right on table rock lake.....it was a pretty cool place to stay......i would definately go to there over arkansas.......

and of course, there is missouri's disney world, also known as "silver dollar city".....it's about what you would expect it to be

Eureka Springs, Ark is pretty cool. An old resort town in the Ozarks filled with a few thousand hippies and bikers who depend on the tourist trade to survive. Lots of places to stay and eat, etc.

I live about 35 miles from Eureka and would agree. It is very "unique" for this part of the country. And of course the scenery around here is awesome if you like that kind of stuff.

I have lived in this state my entire life and teach Arkansas History, so I have a pretty good understanding of all of the regions in the state. I would be happy to give you any information you would like about Arkansas. Just let me know.

For day tripping around the state, check out the following:

Best rope swing is in Cotter, Arkansas. Cute little town in the north-central part of the state, that promotes itself as the trout capitol. It's on the White River and has a huge and beautiful old rainbow arch bridge. The town park down by the river has a spring fed, crystal clear cove with a rope swing attached to a tall leaning I-beam. I think half of the town was there when we went. Don't park close to the river - the water rises rapidly when they open the gates upriver.

More watersports try Cossatot River ( southeast part of the state)

Or check out the rivers / creeks in the Ozarks for canoeing, toobing or kayaking.

If you want to be in the wilderness, check out the Buffalo River. You can see all kinds of wildlife/scenery here. You will no doubt run across the many Elk that live here.

In my opinion, to see the real scenic Arkansas you need to get on the north side of the Arkansas River.
