Thinking of Visiting Arkansas on Vacation (1 Viewer)

If you want to be in the wilderness, check out the Buffalo River. You can see all kinds of wildlife/scenery here. You will no doubt run across the many Elk that live here.

In my opinion, to see the real scenic Arkansas you need to get on the north side of the Arkansas River.

I used to make rock climbing trip up to Mt. Magazine a couple of times a year. Very nice.

Here's a pic of of Mt. Magazine as seen from HWY 10... Since some of my family is in Arkansas, The OK9 and AR10 is a common route for me... My cousin hates it.. He just wants to get on interstate and fly...

Eureka Springs, Ark is pretty cool. An old resort town in the Ozarks filled with a few thousand hippies and bikers who depend on the tourist trade to survive. Lots of places to stay and eat, etc.
Ditto...I live in Arkansas and I would have to agree.
The Ozark mountains are beautiful.Buffalo river is nice.Eureka Springs has the Crescent hotel (supposed to be haunted).

Eureka Springs has The Passion Play (awesome if you are into it).
Beaver lake is beautiful.
Mystic Caverns is amazing.
There is so much natural beauty in Arkansas.

If you'll be there on a Sunday, remember to bring beer. I remember having to drive to OK one time for beer. If you're in La and want to drive to camping in mountains in the least amount of time, it's your best bet. Other than that, I can't any reason to go there.

I've been to Arkansas a bunch of times over the years and never had less than a blowaway time. There is so much to do if you like the outdoors. You can drive 2 hours in any direction and find terrain and things to do completely different from the last place you were at. It's weird, because even the mountain people aren't the typical southern rednecks you'd expect but instead like really nice - and I can tell you that because we got into some trickbags back in the college years. :hihi:

Anyway, unlike Peet, I love Petit Jean. The waterfall there is great as is the scenery. Hot Springs is dynamite. There are some pretty cool dayspas up there that you can get an honest massage for a reasonable price. Little Rock is pretty hip, and the redevelopment along the river has brought some upscale restaurants to the area. There are quartz caves, diamond fields and other cool stuff you can get into if you study up a little on it. And actually the Ouachita Mountains are about as cool as the Ozarks.

Right now, we are still thinking about where we want to go. Gatlinburg, Tennessee was a blast and we would like to go somewhere else, but with the same atmosphere. We would like to see some beautiful scenery and see waterfalls as well. We also want to be able to rent a nice cabin at a reasonable price. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good location?

Eureka Springs is a good bet. but if you liked Gatlingburg, next time, go to Asheville, NC and nearby Black Mountain, NC, then drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway from Ashville to Gatlinburg. Little longer than the Interstate route, but outstanding scenery. Stop at Cherokee,NC, some pretty good country restaurants- had Thanksgiving dinner there a few years ago. Also have a Harrah's Casino if thats your thing.

This pic really has nothing to do with what to do... But it's called The Old Mill... Old water wheel spun a big grain stone...

anyways.. It's in North Little Rock.. And just a place to take your girl.. Smoke a cig and hang out ...

Yep Eureka Springs IMHO blows Hot Springs away....

And you'll never know what you'll find in Yellville. beside a Saturday night block party.. Maybe a one cylinder John Deer Hit and Miss Ice Cream maker.

I didn't check the prices of the cabins, but Devil's Den State Park is a great place.

I haven't been to Arkansas, but I have some friends from Little Rock that said it is a nice place to visit.

Well, we live in the country so that probably has a lot to do with what we like as far as trips go. We want to go somewhere different and with action, many different people, cultures, and food. The same for folks from the city. They want see something different than what they see everyday.
