Mike Detillier / Houma Courier

I have always felt as though the third year of any head coach in the college or pro ranks is the most important year of any regime.

Normally, the first-year head coach gets a honeymoon-type season. If that coach gets instant success, he buys himself a little more time, but the reality of why the job was open to begin with starts to show in the second year.

In year three, the team is a hand-selected version of the head coach and the organization. The coach has rooted out what he perceives are the problem players and he has brought in his own players to fill the void.

It is always easier to get rid of someone else’s mistakes than of your own, but how you handle the most critical time in any regime will tilt the scale one way or another on how much more time the organization will give you. Full Story - Courier
