This game is a microcosm of why Dennis Allen will not last as Head Coach!!!! (3 Viewers)

But what in Allen’s tenure anywhere shows he knows what’s good offense is? Does anyone here think Pete has total control of his offense without Allen telling him what to do? Allen is a complete control freak. He’s not
Letting Pete do what he wants to do.
Prior to being the Saints head coach he was the head coach for 2 years in Oakland. The entire football community has laughed at, pitied, or enjoyed (if you’re an AFC West fan) their awfulness for 20 years now. I really, really, really need Saints fans to let that go already. Thinking that Dennis Allen is both overextending himself and meddling with the offense, and doing that all while showing zero fire/intensity/passion is 🤦🏽‍♀️

Does it matter? Do you think Gayle Benson will go out and pay over odds for a premier head coach? Do you think Mickey Loomis will trust a young college coach/coordinator as a bold hire (one that will put Loomis on the hot seat for making a big decision)? I think Sean Payton left at the right time, understanding how impossible it is for an organization to be fresh and renewed with the same leadership. Frankly big changes need to be made, but I seriously doubt Gayle is the type to do that. She wasn't a risk taker like Tom Benson, who invested his own money into the NFL with the Saints. She got it all by marriage, and regardless of how deep her connections to NOLA are and her love of this place the Saints are not nearly as essential in her computing of that love as say, the diocese. The Saints are her business, not her passion.

Changes will happen, but I would be surprised if they were innovative or fantastic. And that is what we need now more than ever.

Edit: this is a bit of my frustration talking. Gayle has paid in the past (and continues to do so with players) but the general vibe I draw from how Payton's leaving has been handled is one of overwhelming conservatism. It feels like middle management is in charge, and the company is doomed by small cuts now.
I’m at the same conclusion but for different reasons. I actually don’t believe Loomis has any fear of losing his job, and that’s why things aren’t going to change. Maybe they sacrifice Pete after this season but they’ll give Dennis another year. An organization that cares about winning would have gone in a different direction when Sean left. Not to say Mickey doesn’t want to win but he just did what was easiest. Loomis is close to Gayle and he will decide when he’s ready to move on. At this point I think the best we can realistically hope for is Pete gets canned at the end of the year and we strike gold with a new OC. I also believe there is a scenario where someone buying the team is the quickest way we get on the right path but it goes without saying that we would want someone who keeps the team in NOLA.

If DA doesn't get canned at the end of the year, they are really going to feel it in ticket sales next season. (Realizing this is all shared revenue)

I don't expect any changes until after the season. They want to keep everything status quo.

I don’t think the team’s next OC comes from the pro ranks, as much as I’d like for it to be a Ben Johnson or Eric Bieniemy caliber NFL OC. There are some guys in the MAC/Sun Belt/American who are doing good and fun things with their offenses/positions. I like Jason Candle at Toledo, and Tyson Helton at Western Kentucky. Candle’s offenses tend to be balanced, while Helton airs it out a bit more. Rob Likens is the WRs coach at SMU, he’s a bit older but has big program experience and could probably max out the WRs. Brian Haines, over RBs and ST at Appalachian State, could probably scheme Taysom, Kamara, and Shaheed into some pretty fun multi-level attacks. Curtis Johnson has been in the building recently, from 2017-21, and might have an itch to get back to the NFL. As long as Carmichael’s name plate is off the door come January, I’ll be ready to see what’s made of the offense. There’s too much talent being poorly coached.
Thinking outside the box there...pretty good stuff. Problem is that those guys are in stable situations where they are and will be taking a big risk to come on a lame duck staff...gotta get a new HC before you swing on an OC. we're stuck with retreads under Allen
Straight up a lazy move on Mickey's part. The minute Sean packed it in, Mickey knew which way he was going. Again, just lazy.
I get the why at the time...but once we realized it wasn't what we thought it was gonna be...we should've cut bait

Until the defense falters, I don’t think it’s as lame-duck as it feels. They were a top-10 defense just last season and in 2023 they’re just getting absolutely nothing from the offense. If the offense can be schemed into mere competency, it’ll be a marked improvement, and the need to replace DA won’t feel as urgent

Dennis Allen is a very good defensive coordinator. Maybe even borderline great. But as a Head Coach....he's not the answer. It's getting to the point where it would be more fun to see the defense on the field the entire game and if they can prevent the other team from scoring 20 points then it should count as a Saints win.

Back to reality though...Dennis Allen has to realize that you can't win consistenly in today's NFL kicking field goals. This is not the days of the Steel Curtain and the Purple People Eaters. He wanted Derek Carr on the team so we could average just over 15 points per game??? We could have kept Andy Dalton for that!!!!!!!!!
This is not all on Carmichael. After being around Sean Payton all these years he didn't forget how to call offense. He is doing what Allen wants. Which is calling conservative safe crap and leaning too much on the defense who just got lit up by Baker Mayfield, whom arguably through 4 games is the true best QB in the NFC South and it isn't even close!!!!
He not even that good as a DC. You play to win not to do 4th QTR preventatives mode and now he is doing it with the offense as a HC. He has no killer instinct and it show throughout the years as DC and as HC of Raiders and the Saints. I guess that assessment from the Raiders executives about him was true and correct. Anyone have that article about the executive thinks about Dennis Allens???

What truly scares me is that I’m not at all sure DA is fired at the end of the season, regardless how much we underachieve. I’ve said it before, the reason I’m so down on the Saints is because I feel DA will throw Carmichael under the bus at seasons end, and we’ll be stuck with a retread OC and more mediocrity for another year, effectively sapping our literal joy in the process.

I don’t expect us to win every game like the old days, I just want to feel we’re competitive. Respectable. That something good can come of this. That there is hope, whether it works out for our team or not. We’ve lost that, and DA is directly responsible for that loss.
