I have been thinking what a great season this has been. A lot of emphasis has been put on what the fans and region has gone through prior to this, and rightfully so.

But to me the next 2 games are about more than important aspects such as rebuilding the city, state, region. These are first priority, clearly.

But it is also about the future of the franchise. It about changing the fortunes of the Saints forever. It is about pride and respectability. It is about change for the better.

I hope we emulate what the Patriots have done. From being a so-so (but wealthy) franchise to a dynasty. I want Saints fans all over the world to hold their heads high, to rise to the occasion, show pride and compassion and make this America's team with a vengance. And do it in style by staying humble and working hard.

No longer do I want to hear about paper bags, "the Aints" or perrennial losers. One SB appearance (and better a win) will change everything for millions! I hope the players understand this and grab this once in a lifetime opportunity.

If they do, better things will come. Success breeds success

AMEN BROTHER!!

with the type of player that payton brings in, i see us being contenders for a VERY long time. here's hoping we get a few superbowls along the way.

I agree. I was luke warm in 2000 (see the other thread on this subject), but in 2002 was the first time I really thought we could do it. We then choked and I got "defensive" on my SB asperations for the Saints.

This year is quite different. We had the 2nd hardest schedule and actually blew several teams away! We play with poise and disciplin and have a great balance on offense, defense and special teams. So why am I not more optimistic? History and years of dashed hopes. I guess it is a natural human behavior.

I just want this win SO BAD, that I am in denial. A SB appearance will wash away the negative and pessimistic moods. From now on, I want to say the glass is half full when talking Saints!

i agree, but i think this is true regardless of this year's final results... i think payton is looking to build a dominant team that lasts... so i sure hope that IF we don't make the SB i don't read any 'same old saints' comments... no matter what happens, these are *not* the same old saints... a corner has been turned imo

Very well said, Great Dane. It can indeed be a paradigm shift!

I agree totally and actually have never wanted to put a bag on my head. In fact I sent an e-mail to that Gov. Blanco Thank the Saints web site and part of it is in a simlar vein of thought.

Like the saying goes: Winning IS an attitude and the team doesnt just have a new one but so do the fans and we HAVE to KEEP it that way!

I keep having this reoccurring 'daymare' that we will never be able to keep Coach Payton here long term.

It's just too hard to imagine anything this good lasting for very long.

I'm just going to enjoy every moment of the few years that we will have him here.
When he's gone, I plan to start drinking... heavy!!! :all_coholic:

He should be here for a while at least.. but the assistants you have to question.. as with hasletts tenure, with every assistant that left, it got progressively worse.
I assure you that gibbs is going to be getting at least a call or two. He's done a spectacular job with this "no-name" defense. Much better than foreseen.
Or Doug Marrone, look what he has done for the O-line.. man who would have thought that they would turn out this well.

i hope the front office has the good sense to pay these people. they all deserve it, more than any big name head coach who couldnt get it done for our team.

I hope you're right...

But I just can't imagine that Sean Payton ever really wished for New Orleans as his first choice for his 'dream job'.
It's pure speculation to say he won't be wooed for both money and sentimental reasons.
