Any one who has trained in martial arts knows that the karate kid had more than a few exaggerations about what it takes to be a good martial artist.

"Yeah, but catching flies with chopsticks isn't one of them."

Meh, except for the practice and timing, a lot of what he's taught is legit. But it does take way more than one round in a tournament and one barrage of kicks and punches to be good at blocking and anticipating hits. No one wants to sit through a movie like that, and they were just high school kids not Olympic athletes.

I missed the news of this -- so Pence actually had a fly on his head visible on camera during last night's debate?

True, but you need someone to actually try to hit you in a real sparring format to learn how to actually use "wax on/off" blocks. But hey this was all pre BJJ and the Gracie clan. All most people knew back then were Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and King Fu movies.

I was listening to Joe Rogan show the other day when he had Bridget Phetasy on, and he was saying martial arts is really great for teaching people/kids how to lose.

Please tell us more about this King Fu.

It should be legit -- in all Miyagi's fights during the Karate Kid films, he not only bests all of his opponents ... Miyagi only gets hit once. That was when he was taking on three punks in KK2, and one of them manages to weakly hit him from behind with a spear handle. Not that the blow does anything -- Miyagi still manages to take out the garbage 30 seconds later.

IDK who Bridget Phetasy is, but if he meant it in a good way, he is correct. Losing is a good way to learn what not to do.
