Here's the thing with Smith and Vilma, we're paying them a lot either way. If we cut them, we still are going to need depth at DE and LB. If they are willing to take a cut in role and salary to the point it's like signing a veteran backup, it just makes sense to keep good clubhouse guys who might actually improve some being a part time player (less wear and tear).

Thank god we had the veteran experience last season or our defense might have been bad.

We already have the players and bodies to replace Vilma (Hawthorne and Chamberlain) and Smith ( Hicks, Johnson and Walker) I think it be a lot harder to replace the Harper but that's really just a matter of deciding to go younger at his spot and we have Isa there who can battle it out with a draft pick...we have plenty of leaders on D in Lofton, Greer and Jenkins.
