Mike McKenzie is over 30 and coming off a major knee injury. Jason David was brought in last year and was a flop. Usama Young was drafted in the 3rd round and really didn't make any kind of an impact. The only decent corners we have are Randal Gay and Jason Craft. Gay is more of a Nickle Corner, and Craft is more of a Dime.

We have pretty much fixed our problems at LB if both can stay healthy. We brought in an added pass rusher in McCray. We will probably draft a DT in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft since Dorsey and Ellis will be gone. This means that the only true option for us is to start trying to fix the secondary.

None of the CB's in this draft are a Champ Bailey clone, but several have the potential to become great:

Dominique-Rogers-Cromartie: This was the smoothest of the CB's at the combine. He has exceptional leaping ability and is very fluid in his motions. He has done nothing but make plays in college. His only concern is that he comes from a small school.

Leodis McKelvin: This guy is on par with Cromartie and he gives you an added bonus as a K/P returner. Once again, he comes from a small school though.

Mike Jenkins: Watching USF games last year I was saying to myself that I hope this is the guy we could get. Of course, this was way before I watched the combine. I am really high on Cromartie because of his potential to be great. However, I wouldn't be too down to get Jenkins.

Certainly don't disagree. But it seems like we think that almost every year in the last decade (except 1 or 2) - but we never go that route. I really don't know why.

I wonder why Cromartie didn't attend a bigger named school like his cousin?

Leodis at 10... solid cover CB and excellent return man with hester-esque ability...

He seems the CB version of Ted Ginn Jr. Boosted by his skills in the return game. Take those away and he'd be considered a late 1st/early 2nd round corner. One guy that has perked up my interest is Justin King. If he's there in the 2nd round he'd be a solid selection. Corners generally take 2-3 years to not be a liability. There are question marks on all the 1st round corners. I'd rather take a capable guy in the 2nd and hope they develop. Rashean Mathis was a 2nd rounder. The best corner of recent drafts was Richard Marshall, another 2nd rounder. Antrell Rolle and Carlos Rogers, both top 10 selections have been streaky to say the least, and that's a kind assessment

I'm fine with picking a CB... I'm more comfortable picking CB if we trade down. Noone really worth the ten spot. If Vilma and Morgan flop, then we have the same argument you state for corners, for the LBs. I like McKelvin, Rivers, Cromartie at 10 I guess, would love them at a lower spot but i hope we get Ellis to drop to us @ 10 but that is very unlikely. If we have a shot, I would trade up for Dorsey... If not, we try a DT in round 2 or end up waiting till next years crop of FA and draftees.

I agree with you totally but if the Saints want to be contenders they need a pass rush and a DT that can push the moddle is what is lacking there not a CB. if Ellis or Dorsey fall past 6 or 7 I think we should try to move up and take a CB later in the draft. Also i think that Forte in the second is a great pick so I guess you could say I would not touch a CB until the third unless Dorsey or Ellis go top 5

I want Cason in the 2nd. That is where the value is.

i completely agree with the post. however, i'm not sure if it's just being drilled into my head or if i'm actually coming around to the thought that if we can trade a 1st and 3rd and move up to get ellis or dorsey, i would do it. then take a corner in the second. if MM is healthy then the cb situation is better but if he's not then we are in real trouble. i wouldn't have a problem with drc or mckelvin, but would rather dorsey or ellis since both seem to be closer to a sure thing than any of the corners or rivers. i do have a problem losing the pick for one spot when we have numerous holes. i'm also not sold on the o line. what i'd love to see assuming dorsey, ellis, and rivers are gone is drc-1, laws or the guy from nc at dt- 2, g/c at 3

I know it's just a video game, but I played Madden against my friend yesterday after making all the offseason moves we have so far other than the draft.

Got burnt deep every time, by whoever wasn't covered by McKenzie. It was like a safety net, he could sit in the pocket look for better options and if he was about to get hit, just throw it to the side of the field McKenzie isn't on and watch his guy catch the ball for yet another spectacular 10-15+ yard gain, our receivers also had the drops but that's do to bad programming, drop balls are a problem in that game and always have been.

Point is, it reminded me of how bad our secondary was this year. I do feel Dorsey and Ellis are better at their position than any of the CB's in this draft are at theirs and therefore should be taken if we're in a position to draft them. However if they're gone it's got to be a corner for me, especially if DRC, Talib, or McKelvin are still on the board. If they're gone we should go offensive line with Clady because he should definitely still be there if our top 5 defensive choices are gone. The guy would be BPA and we all know our line protection and particularly our push on running plays needs to be improved.

If we don't take one in the first, then we HAVE to take one in the second. Cason would be nice from the "second-tier" group, and I'd be happy with Clady and Cason assuming all the others mentioned before them were gone when we made the picks.

Also we could really use a Safety, so if we go corner in the first and somehow Phillips is available in the second, I feel the F.O. needs to do what it can to get him on this team. If not, then we should just give Bullocks and co. one last chance to prove us wrong and definitely pick one up next year should they fail to do so.

I don't particularly want a corner at #10, but if we do draft one there I hope it's Jenkins.

My real hope is that either Dorsey or Ellis fall in our laps. If that happens then I hope we get either Mayo or Cason in the 2nd. In then somehow we get lucky 1 more time and Forte by us either trading up for or he falls to the 3rd.

If our Draft came out to be:
1)Dorsey
2)Cason
3)Forte
I'd be very happy.

I completely agree with the OP. I would like to see us draft a CB in round 1. And in round 2, if Cason or Porter are available, take him! We need 2 starting CBs. I just not convinced MM can do it this year, and he is getting older.
