In view of us grabbing tight ends off the waiver wire or less, would a top-tier pass catching tight end, like a Tony Gonzales, make us an elite offense or just take catches away from our other receivers?

We would have to be better in the red-zone and hot read patterns off of blitzes right?

I believe it would be a HUGE pickup to get someone like Tony Gonzalez or other formidable TE.

We all know the how the tandem of BREES/GATES at San Diego was!!!!!!!!!

Tony Gonzalez is one guy i'd support going after. He's actually a solid blocker so he'd fit in well. But we'd probably have to way over-spend to get him and then he wouldn't get enough balls to justify the price tag (70 catches).

Unless someone has already picked him up, he's available and has great hands. I'm still convinced blocking techniques can be taught and learned.

Well the Jets did I believe, but only on a 1 year deal. He hasn't caught a single pass for them (and they arent exactly stacked at the position).

Like Colby Bockwaldt, at some point we have to decide that maybe he just wasn't that good all things considered.

We should bring Big Baby in to camp next year to see what happens. He'd prolly be a beast if he'd drop a few pounds!! He would probably rather that anyway because NFL > NBA by leaps and bounds.

Ummm...Zach Hilton anyone?

Until he can block the way Payton wants him too... I doubt we'll see Zach in black and gold. I'd like to see him work on his blocking, then come back to minicamp next year and fight for a spot... that's if he doesn't sign with another team.

The News
The Saints signed free agent tight end John Owens on Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The team released defensive end Eric Moore to create a roster spot for Owens.

Our View
Owens was added for depth purposes, as starting tight end Ernie Conwell will miss his third consecutive game after undergoing knee surgery.

Owens are whatever the guy's name is suits us better than Zach did? There must be something to the thing of not using Zach more than his inability to block as well as needed. Our TE's must be awesome in pass blocking rather than run blocking. In the last 2 games combined we haven't got 100 yards of rushing. Either everyone else that run blocks is really average and the TE's we have are saving them from defeat or our RB's aren't hitting the hole. It's gotta be that something other than Zach's blocking ability isn't up to par. He can't be that much farther behind than what we've seen of those who have played for us this season. I don't want to 2nd guess Sean because his results have been excellent. But maybe Zach said something, didn't seem smart enough to Sean, was too loyal to the former regime, over-bargained his asking price or some other sort of personal rub that keeps him out of town. the last I heard the Jets released him.

Well considering he can't play for the Jets....

maybe.....

just maybe......

he wasn't that good.

I like Zach, I liked Colby. Lots of people I like can't play in the NFL. It happens

I was wondering if you would follow suit with copied responses.

One question though. Why lump Colby with Zach? There are many other fan favorites who hit the trail but Colby always seems to follow suit when Zach is brought up. If not Colby then it's Hass. Is it because they are white or something?
