Draft decisions more complex with value chart.

DAVIE · Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller said he never experienced a more exasperating draft day than in 2006.

The Dolphins were trying to move out of the No. 16 pick in the first round. But as Mueller and then-coach Nick Saban called potential trade partners, the Dolphins were stymied in leapfrog attempts to grab Oregon nose tackle Haloti Ngata -- who landed in Baltimore with the No. 12 pick -- or drop down and accumulate extra selections.

"We were trying to do anything," said Mueller, whose franchise eventually selected Tennessee defensive back Jason Allen at No. 16. "We grinded for two long days and it was maybe the most frustrating two days I could remember. We couldn't get a break. We couldn't make a deal."
