To Tip or not to tip (3 Viewers)

So, the casino thread says to tip because they only make minimum wage; this thread says don't tip because they make minimum wage. Lol.

Dealers have to go school, Sonic runners don't. You don't go to school to make minimum wage.

THE CASINO?!?!?!.!?!?"?! I tip so you can make millions? I benefit from tipping in the food industry...it keeps food cost down. But, how did I get strapped with cutting their expenses...and I'm an ******* if I don't make sure their employees get a decent compensation. It's ridiculous.

Keeps hotel room costs down? Casinos aren't doing that well. A lot of them are closing. I'm okay with tipping their employees

People that don't tip need to get through their thick skulls that just because they WANT tips to be optional, doesn't make it okay to not tip. Reminds me of Goodell whipping his crank around just because he can. Yea, technically you can get away with it, but you're still an ******* for doing it.

That's right. Non-tippers are worse than Goodell.

Dang it....I meant to thumbs down your post.

not sure why, for thanking him for clearing up the fact that I have been tipping them for a reason and not just tipping them because I felt like I had too? weird.

I've tipped $50 on an $8 burger...why? Because it was the guys first night and he did an amazing job...I told him he would do very well at that business if he kept doing what he was doing.
I see you fell for the old "it's my first night on the job" line. I used that back in my stripper days (last week) all the time.

That brings up a whole 'nother topic!!!

Since when do strippers want more than $1 bills? Last time I went, i was being harrassed for for $10s and $20s...they didnt get them, at least from me. But did i miss the stripper tip memo?

Those guys work out hard, and chaps aren't cheap.

we went out for a fish fry..my better half had a lemonade..she's not a beer drinker..one of the reasons why she has a killer body..i had a southern comfort manhatten pre-meal drink..then had a ale with supper. our girl was great and the place was hopping..she wore a smile which made is smile. bill was 33 bucks..we didnt get any dessert. i left 50 bucks

was 16 and change a bit much..not really..service was great, food was thumbs up and our server had a great attitude.

p.s.- i like vinegar on my potato salad..at some places they (server) will look at you weird..this gal said with a smile "sure, let me get that for you"..no hesitation.

good luck to everybody..and enjoy your meals out. dont dwell on the money aspect..if you worry about money when dining..then you shouldn't be out dining in the first place..just my thought.

self edit..we are people that don't agree on what the bill is and do the tip in that direction % wise. why should i pay more..or less depending on if i am ordering a piece of fish and sides for 10.49..or a NY strip for 18.99. that never added up to us..

I don't tip fast food or things like that. However, I'm also the butthead that won't tip if I get service that sucks. However, I will tip very well if someone actually takes time and pays attention to my order/service/or maybe even a smile. The girls at the brewery for instance love when I go there because they are friendly, actually have a conversation and make me feel like they are happy I'm here. It's not rare for me to tip 100% of the bill. Or if its something I need. I had driven. 21 hours to my grampas funeral. I was starving and the only thing there was Pizza Hut. Asked the guy if I could get an order of breadsticks in 10 min cuz I had a funeral I had to get to. The guy got me my breadsticks and soda in less than five, I'm sure making someone wait. Paid the guy with a 50 and told him to keep the change. Made the kids day I'm sure. But hey, he went above and beyond so I did too.

hey dave..very few things bother me these days..but what i don't like is going to a eatery and having the server NOT write down my (our) order. it bugs me..seems like a lot more places are doing that, especially during the slow time which is between the lunch and supper crowd. i would say about 50% of the time..something ends up wrong with the order..

just a pet peeve of mine..

Having worked in food service, it is something more restaurants want because it shows the wait staff is paying attention to you. It's cool when the person is good at it, however, I agree quite a bit of the time it leads to screwed up orders. Couple of months ago about 15 of us went out in Monterray. Most custom orders, spent about ten min talking to the guy also. He nailed every one of them. He was the best I've ever seen. Everyone agreed that he deserved a good tip and he got it.

I don't know about the places you go to, but its just unnecessary. Writing things down is cumbersome, takes your eyes off the customer, and really? You can't remember an order? Even if complicated, if you know the menu, come on. Sure if its like 16 people or something, but otherwise, a normal sized party at a decent restaraunt, they should not write anything down and you should expect 100% accuracy.

LSSpam..sure,you would think it would be that way..but we don't live in a world full of perfection. i'm not perfect and you are not perfect..just stating facts about my experiences as a customer. we dine about twice a month..some fine dining down to a corner gin mill atmosphere. let me tell you..i have had some of the best service at a corner gin mill..just because a chap has on a bow tie around his neck meshed in with a white shirt and black dress slacks doesnt make him have a better memory..anymore than a 60 yr old part owner of Bob And Jo Anns Place does.

Fact is..servers screw up orders when they do not write everything down..and this has happened to us with just me and my bride going out to eat.. a place called Salvatore's Italian Gardens.
