Bama fans are celebrating that he is leaving and that Saban didn't make him his DC, FWIW.
Blame him, but Saban doesnt get all the best players anymore. Sabans a good coach, but its easier if u have the best players

At MS State he was DC and I think he helped develop guys like Jeffrey Simmons and Montez Sweat. So he at least knows what good D Linemen look like

That's true. Maybe it's Grantham and Woods' positional coach expertise they are being brought in for and not the schemes they ran as DCs.

Great hire by DA. Grantham comes from a good background.

DA has always liked the hybrid 3rd safety sets.

I don't think this is a move to a 3-4 but an evolution of DA's defense. We may see more 3 down linemen, but I don't think we will see a 4th Linebacker, but an additional DB/Safety that can also play in the box.
This may be the reason why Allen and Richard disagreed on philosophy and ultimately replacing him at the DC position

Werner and Demario in the middle, Ellis at one olb spot and maybe Granderson at the other? That would put the line at Cam de, Tuttle at NT, Onyemata at de(if resigned). It could work.

Dav, although a FA and Turner both might be suited better as 3-4 DEs. I think we'd have to draft a true NT and this draft has a few.

I think so, since both have specialized backgrounds in areas where the team has openings with the loss of Richard and Nielsen. And expect somebody to get named as DC to work as an assistant to Allen and to create that leadership hierarchy to assume responsibilities as requested or necessary.

That’s a multi-year project for any team, probably a 3-4 year project for us with our cap situation. I don’t think we are actually switching, but if we are I’m not a fan.
It depends on what we do with Street, Davenport, Turner, and Jordan, all of which are built for 3-4 DE. Onyemata can also play 3-4 DE well. Granderson is about the same size as Davenport, but he seems more finesse, and Roach, and Tuttle are not big enough to play NG, and probably not quick enough to play DE, so they may not fit the scheme as well. Granderson may be our best pass rusher, so maybe he stays as a specialist. I think we would need a couple of true NGs and a couple of LBs to start with Werner, Davis and Ellis. This could be achieved in 1 offseason.
