The Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio's Catholic theological seminary, is launching a new $30 million capital campaign to support the school's academic programs, renovations and new construction at the campus.

On April 8, businessman and philanthropist Tom Benson will contribute the lead gift, a $15 million challenge grant, benefiting the campaign. Benson is the owner of the New Orleans Saints and also recently gave a boost to another Catholic institution, the University of the Incarnate Word, to support its football program.

The $15 million gift will allow Oblate to endow the Frank Montalbano OMI Chair of Scripture Studies. The money also will be used to build a new auditorium and classroom building that will be used as a center for theological education. The campus will also undergo a $3 million renovation.
