tommy shaw is beyond doubt the greatest songwriter of our generation (1 Viewer)

I don't know what you mean by our generation, because I'm a little older than you...but Beethoven was the best songwriter of my generation. I saw him live once and dude just thrashed the piano bra.

It's obvious to all that Kanye is the greatest songwriter to ever walk the face of the earth.

His early stuff with Styx The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight was very good indeed and he gets credit for resisting Styx' drift into the pop shlock of Paradise Theater.

Greatest songwriter of that era I'd have to give to Springsteen or Tom Petty.

Okay, wow. I'm going to have to put this fairly high up on my list of "claims I honestly never expected anyone to make, ever."

I was not aware that Stevie Wonder had changed his name to...Tommie Shaw, you say?... huh, yeah, that's interesting. Well, Mr. Wonder...I mean Shaw...has earned the right to go by whatever he wants.

EDIT: VoodooChild85 beat me to it!

Blue collar man
Mam in the wilderness
Renegade
High enough
Mystified
Don't you tread on me
Too much time on my hands
Love in the midnight
Snow blind
Can you count on me
Girls with guns
Reach for the bottle

I could go on and on. Best songwriter of our generation

Once in a dream far beyond these castle walls
Down near the bay where the moonlit water falls
I stood alone while the minstrel sang his song
So afraid I'd lost my soul

There in the fog his song kept calling me
Leading me on with its haunting melody
Deep in my heart a voice kept echoing
I knew I'd soon be wandering

Far beyond these castle walls
Where the distant harbor meets the sky
There the battle raged like hell
And every dove that lost it's will to fly

Far beyond these castle walls
Where I thought I heard Tiresias say
"Life is never what it seems
And every man must meet his destiny"

I always loved this song and I thought it was Tommy Shaw wrote the lyrics, but it was De Young. Surprised me.:hihi:

If we're going to keep it to '70s and '80s American rock, I'd still take Petty or the Boss. Also Gregg Allman. Or Henley, Fry, and the rest of the Eagles. Or the Doobie Brothers.

I mean, I'm not saying Shaw is crap, but put down the pipe.
