Sooooo, the Hurt Locker is better than Casablanca? Slumdog Millionaire is better than Rocky, The Sound of Music, Rain Man?

With the exception of #1, I disagree with the whole order.

This list is riddled with failure. Granted, it's all opinion but still....:jpshakehead:

The Godfather part 2 is top ten?

Stick to picking bad flicks rotten tomatoes. You are good at that

Ridiculous list, Casablanca is on everybody's list as a top 5 movie of all time yet 14th on this list.:idunno:

I found myself just counting how many I had seen -- less than 25%.

EDIT: Counted wrong the first time, but not much better. I've seen 29/83 (that I recall). I believe that's about 35%.

I'm not familiar with the web site, but from just reading the name, I have to say, "What did you expect? The name of the site is rottentomatoes."

BTW, I'll be in Purvis at the end of the month. :)

We all know that RT ratings are just a collection of all movie critics reviews divided into either positive or negative and you get a percent positive, right? Its not like people at RT rate the movies.

This method works for most modern films, but usually isnt as good for older flicks due to a far lesser number of critics in them days. So I guess they went and gave those movies more slack when it comes to reviews.

Some of you are ranting like some dude in a cubicle put this list together.

Also, link?

EDIT:Ok, found it and it seems like they only used the Tomatometer as a guide for sorting some of them out. So not strictly based on the percent positive but mostly.

Still can't believe that the Crap Locker was on anyone's list...

There have only been 83 winners to date right? So it isn't the "top 83 best picture winners" - it's just simply ranking the winners of that award.

I was delighted to see Forest Gump ranked that low on the list of winners. I felt The Madness of King George should have won that year, and still do. I have never understood the overwhelming love of Forest Gump. And as much as I loved both Gladiator and Braveheart, their low rankings on the list are probably correct. They score huge points for sheer epicness and good performances, but lose points on the relative simplicity of the plotlines. Both are essentially classic stories of love and revenge.

Crash will forever be the biggest fail in Oscar history.

Agree. It was a message we have seen a million times, told in a rather boring way, and Brokeback should have won that year, easy.

Are you a lunatic? Godfather 2 is one of the best movies ever, and definitely a Top 10. Top 5.

I've seen 37 of them.

Side note: My weird friend Sam can tell you the Best Picture, Actor and Actress winner of every year. Dead-on accurate every time.

Shakespeare in Love ranked higher than almost 50 other Best Picture winners? Really?

It's a great movie. I appreciate it winning since it nearly always seems the most dramatic/tragic film will be the winner, and movies with humor/comedy are never seriously considered. Would I consider it a "chick flick?" Mmm...yeah. I guess it is in many ways. But the performances were quite fine, and the play within a play aspect of it is not only entirely Shakespearean, but also manages to lighten up one of the Bard's most tear-jerking tragedies. It was good work all around.

Saving Private Ryan >>>>>> Shakespeare in Love on any decent rating system. I'm all for a comedy winning, but this was the wrong one, in the wrong year.
